Memorial School is so excited to kick off our summer reading program!
As a school community we applaud all you have done to support your child’s engagement and learning this school year. As we approach the gifts of summer, and a well-deserved break, it will be critically important for your learner to continue to grow as an independent reader, and to recognize reading as one of the many positive life choices they can make. In an effort to maintain students’ level of reading independence and prevent summer reading loss, we are encouraging all students to set goals to continue their reading journey over the summer.
For K-3rd Graders
In library classes, readers have been discussing goals and receiving their summer reading log. This log should be returned in the fall and readers who turn it in will be invited to participate in a special reading celebration.
In the classroom, students also had a special visit from public children’s librarian, Dylan Waddington, to hear about all the exciting things the East Hampton Public Library has to offer this summer. We hope that you take advantage of the amazing programing and book selection available to enhance your child’s summer reading experience. Also make sure to check out our Summer Read Aloud Series schedule that is back at the public library this year!

Wishing you a summer full of fun and relaxation!

Math News
Dear Memorial Families,
As we near the end of the school year, we want to make you aware of the various opportunities the district will be offering over the summer months in order to support your learner’s continued engagement with mathematics. We recognize there are many summer activities for students to support their needs. With participation in any of the activities, your child will be able to maintain their math skills over the summer months. Your support in this initiative is greatly appreciated.

Details about the opportunities and how your learner can participate can be found by clicking the various links. All students received a hard copy of the district’s Summer Math Packet this week. We will communicate a due date for completed summer activities in the fall – and plan for a fun celebration!
Please reach out to district math specialists, Lis Ellis (K-2) and Andrea Winiarski (3-5), with any questions.
We hope you have “sum” fun with math over the summer!

Safe School Climate
The East Hampton Board of Education and the school community as a whole promote a secure and productive school climate, conducive to teaching and learning that is free from threat, harassment, and any type of bullying behavior. Therefore it shall be the policy of the Board that bullying and/or teen dating violence committed against a student by another student is prohibited. The Board believes that a school environment in which students feel safe, supported, engaged and helpfully challenged is optimal for learning and healthy development. The Board seeks an environment in which students and adults feel socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically safe; an environment that is free of harassment, intimidation, teen dating violence and bullying. Our website provides links to various policies and reporting forms including our Safe School Climate Plan. Hard copies are also available in our main office. If at any point you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to building administration for further assistance.
Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
