Scheduling for the 2025-2026 School Year
Hi Eagles Parents!
It’s that time of the year when 6th and 7th grade students will choose which electives they are interested in taking next year. At this time, we are asking parents/guardians to review the Course Description Guide with their student and discuss which electives they are interested in taking next year. Below is the schedule when Counselors will be in classrooms for students to rank their electives in order of preference. Due to a variety of factors, not every elective will be offered at Adams next school year, however, we make every effort to place students in their top elective choices. Schedules are not finalized until late August, so this is the first step in the six month scheduling process.

We are asking parents/guardians to review this with their student before Counselors come to classrooms so students are prepared to rank their elective choices.

ELA
📚 Exciting Times in ELA!
As we wrap up the month of February, we are thrilled to announce that all ELA classes are embarking on an engaging unit focused on non-fiction! This unit promises to be both enlightening and inspiring as students explore a variety of non-fiction materials, including:
- Autobiographies
- Biographies
- Diary Entries
- Articles
Nonfiction texts help students engage with real-world topics, enhance their critical thinking, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. Here are some simple yet effective ways you can support your child's reading and writing of nonfiction at home.
Tips for Supporting Nonfiction Reading at Home
1. Explore Nonfiction Books Together
Encourage your child to read nonfiction books that interest them. Visit your local library or bookstore to find engaging titles on topics they love!
2. Discuss What They Read
After reading, have a discussion about the content. Ask questions like, "What was the main idea?" or "What new facts did you learn?" This helps reinforce comprehension.
3. Connect to Real Life
Relate nonfiction topics to everyday life. Whether it’s discussing a science experiment or a historical event, making connections can deepen understanding.
4. Use Online Resources
Websites like National Geographic Kids or PBS LearningMedia offer a wealth of nonfiction articles and videos that can spark curiosity and learning.
✏️ Writing Project
In addition to reading, students will have the opportunity to research a career they are interested in. They will create an informative slideshow presentation that showcases their findings. This project aims to not only enhance their research and writing skills but also to help them think critically about their future career paths.
Tips for Supporting Nonfiction Writing at Home
1. Encourage Journaling
Have your child keep a journal where they can write about their daily observations or summarize nonfiction texts they read.
2. Research Projects
Support your child in choosing a topic of interest and conducting research. Guide them in organizing their findings into a structured format, such as an essay or presentation.
3. Writing Prompts
Provide writing prompts that encourage nonfiction writing. For example, "Write about a person you admire and the impact they have made."
4. Share Their Work
Create opportunities for your child to share their nonfiction writing with family or friends. This can boost their confidence and reinforce their skills.
Math
This month, 8th graders will continue building on their algebraic skills by exploring multistep equations and learning how to solve for one variable. They will practice isolating variables through a series of operations, strengthening their understanding of balance and inverse operations. Meanwhile, 7th graders are diving into the world of integers, focusing on computations with negative numbers. They’ll work on mastering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division involving both positive and negative integers, laying a solid foundation for more advanced math concepts.
We've wrapped up NWEA testing. Students will take their final NWEA Math test in the spring
This month, the math teachers are focusing on fostering student talk and collaboration in the classroom. By encouraging students to discuss their thought processes and share problem-solving strategies, the teachers are creating opportunities for students to learn from each other. This approach not only helps deepen understanding but also builds communication skills as students explain and defend their solutions, strengthening their overall math proficiency.
Parents can support their child at home by creating a positive and engaging environment for practicing math. For 8th graders working on multistep equations, parents can encourage their child to explain their steps out loud while solving problems, helping them focus on the process of isolating variables. For 7th graders learning about integers, parents can provide real-life examples, like budgeting or temperature changes, to make negative numbers more relatable. Additionally, parents can promote a growth mindset by emphasizing persistence and the importance of learning from mistakes, while also offering praise for effort and progress.
Congratulations to our NHD Winners!!!!
