May 2025 Library Voting Information
The school district is including two items for the Schuylerville Public Library on the ballot for consideration by residents:
The first is an election for the Library’s Board of Trustees and is separate and distinct from Schuylerville Central School District’s budget and Board of Education’s elections. The Schuylerville Public Library is holding elections for two seats on its Board of Trustees this year. The two candidates who receive the highest total number of votes cast in their favor shall each fill a three-year term ending in 2028, created by the expiration of the current terms of Trustees Laura Dooley and BriAnne Mulligan.
For those interested in running for a trustee position, please follow the instructions on the petition form.
The second item to be decided on by voters is the $32,000 increase to the Schuylerville Public Library’s annual budget appropriation, which would be a total of $409,000 annually. The increase will allow the Library to maintain its resources with rising costs and add to library materials and public programming budgets. The Schuylerville Public Library is committed to offering unique and educational programs for the community. Each year the Library hosts hundreds of programs and serves thousands of people. All of its programs and exhibitions are free and open to the public. Connect here for TLC ~Technology, Literacy, Community!
Election takes place at the Schuylerville Central School District on May 20, 2025 from 12pm-9pm.

Library Expansion Updates:
ASPL's Turning a Page Capital Campaign
As many of you have already heard, the library is looking to expand our physical space to better serve our community. Financial and community support is needed in order to make our dream of a better-sized facility a reality. The photo below is a rendering of what the completed expansion would look like. The blueprint to the left details what features and spaces our library will include after finishing the renovation.
There will be a public vote on August 12th of this year for the community to decide if they are ready for the Library to move forward with this expansion. Additionally, the Advocates for the Schuylerville Public Library are fundraising for the project with an initial financial goal of $200,000 which was met in April 2025. We have been blown away by the generosity of our donors thus far and will continue to update the community on the fundraising efforts.
With 57 years since our last capital campaign and major expansion, we understand how significant this change is. When it was completed in 1968, our current building was built to serve just over 1,400 residents. After transitioning from a Village Library to a School District Library in 2013, we now provide service to just over 10,000 residents. Our goal has been and continues to be to serve our community to the best of our ability, and our greatest limitation to that at present is our physical space.
Staff Picks
Question of the Month!
It's a new month, with a new opportunity to learn a little bit about our staff. Each month we ask the staff a question and post the response here in the newsletter. We'd love to hear your response to the question the next time you stop into the library! This month we posed:
May 16th is National Classic Movie Day. What is your favorite "classic" movie?
Caitlin: "Gigi"
Julie: *Julie has been out this month so you'll have to stop by in May and ask her what her favorite classic movie is yourself!*
Holly: "I'm not sure I have a favorite, and it depends on what we are defining "classic," but the oldest ones I can remember watching are: Gone with the Wind (which needed two VHS tapes to fully watch) and Ben-Hur. If we are going off IMDB's top 100 classics, then Jaws (with Alien a close second)."
Emilly: "I loved Bedknobs and Broomsticks"
Jessica: "Sleeping Beauty"
Beth: "I know this is probably a super common one, but my favorite has to be "The Wizard of Oz". It's just magical!"
Brandi: "My all time favorite classic movie is the 1964 movie "My Fair Lady" Staring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison
Mary Lou: "One of my favorites is "The Thin Man" movie series featuring outrageously fun lifestyle of Nick and Nora Charles, with their dog Asta. The mysteries unfold ion each movie and despite all the twists and turns, justice and love prevail. Delightful & fun!!"
