2024 Marathon -Saturday, October 5 Our school goal: $45,000 at Sanborn Park 9:15 a.m.
Our Marathon is the only mandatory fundraiser for SHCS and its success is a tremendous example of how SHCS families and staff pull together to accomplish our goals. Our goal is for EVERY student to bring in the required $300 fundraising goal for the Marathon. The Marathon is also a celebration and a chance for people to come together. We have fun walking, running or biking. All funds remain here at Sacred Heart and they are used to offset the rising costs of providing a quality education. So if you are asked, “Where does the money go?” It truly goes to support every part of our mission.
We will be continue using PledgeStar to secure online donations for our 2024 Marathon. This is an easy way for your donors to pay online. Directions are below explaining how to set up your PledgeStar web page. You may still collect cash/checks and we will enter them to your family PledgeStar web page so you can track your total.

New Communication Tool for Teachers and Parents-Talking Points
We are going to implement Talking Points as an additional way to communicate with our parents through text messaging. This two-way app TalkingPoints will help teachers communicate with you easily through your phone.
The best part is that parents may choose their preferred language and the app will translate for you and the teacher. It is important that we implement this app to strengthen our communication between school and home for everyone.
How might teachers use this app? Teachers may send you a reminder about a special day or "don't forget" message or a special note.
Watch for a TalkingPoints letter coming home this week with directions on how to download and a special code specific for your child's grade. The app is available is free for iOs and Android.
Blessing of the Classrooms
Fr. Pedersen visited every classroom on Friday to bless the students and teachers to fill them with God's wisdom. We pray for a successful and safe school year!
Absences and Truancy
Regular attendance and punctuality are absolutely necessary if a child is to do his/her best in school. Sacred Heart Catholic School policy will adhere to the state of Minnesota regulations concerning school attendance. All work missed due to student absence must be made up as soon as possible. Absences and tardies affect a student’s performance, and have shown to impact student learning and test results.
Examples of excused absences: sickness, medical/mental health appointments, family emergency, pre-arranged vacations, non-school competitions/performances.
Examples of unexcused absences: missing the bus, oversleeping, weather, babysitting, incomplete homework.
Procedures:
● All students not in school will be counted absent.
● By 7:45 a.m., parent/guardian must call and inform the school if the child is ill, absent, or tardy, for ANY reason with an email to Sarah Bowback sbowback@shcsr.org) or classroom teacher, or phone call (763-537-1329)
● If communication from a parent is not received, the school will call the parent/guardian to determine the reason for the absence and make sure the child is safe.
● Three consecutive sick days require a doctor’s note.
● Any absence not called in will be recorded as an unexcused absence.
● A letter of concern will be sent after 3 unexcused absences. 3 unexcused tardies = 1 unexcused day.
● A child is considered truant after 5 unexcused absences. The school will contact the parent to discuss the truancy. If excessive/tardies continue, the school will file an educational neglect report to the Hennepin County Family and Children’s Services Division in accordance with state law.
● If your child is sick for one day, please do not call for make-up work. Homework for grades 5-8 will be posted on Google Classroom.
● If your child is well enough to come to school, please do not ask that he/she stay in for recess unless we receive a doctor’s note.
● If absence is due to work, travel, or some reason, parents/guardians should notify the school prior to the absence. Homework will NOT necessarily be issued ahead of time for students who anticipate being out of school.

Need help paying for tuition?
MN Fundraising Initiative (MNFI) secures contracts with over 23 venues in the greater Twin Cities area including Target Field, Target Center, Canterbury, and US Bank to operate food and beverage concessions stands at their events.
MNFI organizes teams of volunteers from all over the state of MN and WI who work together to run these stands. In turn, MNFI receives donations from these venues. The donations are then used to award grants to families in local communities to allow youth to attend private school, such as Sacred Heart Catholic School and participate in enrichment activities they may not otherwise be able to enjoy. Checks are mailed directly to Sacred Heart in your name.
Many of our school families use this organization to help pay for tuition.
Click on the website and create an account by clicking on the “Volunteer registration”.
