DID YOU KNOW
Did You Know? PowerSchool Parent Portal – Attendance Codes Explained!
Keeping track of your child’s attendance in PowerSchool? Ever wonder what those little codes actually mean? We’ve got you covered! Here are some of the most commonly used attendance codes and what they really mean:
✅ IPP (In Person Present)
The best one to see! This means your child was in school, where they should be, soaking up knowledge and (hopefully) enjoying it!
⏰ TDY (Tardy)
This code means your student arrived after the bell but still made it to class.
🏠 VERP (Excused Absence)
Life happens—illness, family emergencies, or other valid reasons. This means the school has received an excuse for the absence from a guardian.
❌ UNX (Unexcused Absence)
Oops! No note, no call. If you see this, it means an absence hasn’t been cleared with the school yet.
📖 CORE (Choices. Outcomes. Responsibility. Expectations. Room)
Indicates a student is not in their assigned class but is instead working with the C.O.R.E. teacher on regulation skills, assignment completion, and transitioning to the next period.
Need to clear up an absence? Make sure to check with the school office!
Pro Tip: The PowerSchool Parent Portal updates in real-time, so you can always stay in the loop on your child’s attendance. No surprises! 🎉

Notes from the Nurse
School immunization clinic: The school nurses have partnered with Franciscan to offer a school immunization clinic on Thursday, May 15th from 4-7 pm at the Sheridan Elementary School gym. This is open to all students. Mark your calendars now, and we will update the Community Happenings page on the school website with registration information. If your child is behind on immunizations, needs Kindergarten, 6th or 12th grade shots, please plan to attend. Indiana law requires incoming 6th graders to have a Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine, and incoming seniors to have their second Meningococcal vaccine before the start of school on August 6th. It’s not too early to start getting these important immunizations for the next school year.
Sickness: Please continue to stay vigilant with hand hygiene and keeping children home when ill. Fever, diarrhea, vomiting all need to stay home for 24 hours after last episode without medicine. Eye infections and undiagnosed rashes need to be seen by a doctor before returning to school. Please help keep our student body healthy as we wrap up the school year.
End of year medications: Prescription, emergency, and OTC medications in the clinic that belong to students will need to be picked up by May 22rd at 3:00 pm. High School students may pick up non-controlled substances with written permission from a parent or guardian. Middle Schoolers may not take anything home. Controlled substances must be picked up by a parent/guardian/other designated adult with written permission. Anything left after that date will be disposed of because medications cannot be stored at school over the summer. **As a reminder, DO NOT send in medications with your children. All meds taken at school must be brought in by a parent.
PowerSchool Forms: As registration opens up for the 2025-2026 school year, don’t forget to make sure you fill out the Health Authorization and Information forms in their entirety. These forms have been cleared, and they need to be updated every year so we have the most accurate current and past health history for your child and annual authorization to give OTC medications in the clinic should your child need something.
Return items: I lend out a lot of clothing items, water bottles, etc., and I rarely see them returned. Please ask your child if he or she has borrowed something from me and return it so that other children can use the item. Thank you.
