Year 5 Visit Their Pen Pals at St Peter's in Leeds
Year 5 Visit Their Pen Pals
On Wednesday the Year 5 children travelled to St Peter's C of E Primary School in Leeds to meet their pen pals. It was the first time the children had met after writing letters to each other. The children had a super day completing different activities with pen pals. They took part in an orienteering activity around the school grounds and unscrambled letters to identify each schools values and they completed an activity encouraging the children to find out more about each. They enjoyed eating lunch outside before enjoying an ice lolly and singing St Peter's school song together with actions. We can't wait to see them again in July when they visit our school for the day!
Well Done Year 6
Year 6 Stars
Year 6 had their end of key stage statutory tests of attainment this week. They started each day with breakfast of a sausage or bacon sandwich, provided by our wonderful kitchen staff before doing their tests. Throughout the entire week they have demonstrated fabulous positive attitudes and we have been immensely proud of each individual. Well done Year 6, you are all stars!
Colour Run - Friday 24th May 2024
Countdown to getting Colourful
We are all very excited about our Colour Run for the children that will be taking place on Friday 24th May in the afternoon. Thank you for your orders for t-shirts and sunglasses. We do ask that children have suitable clothes, footwear and eyewear (eg sunglasses) that they should bring with them on the day of the event. Children will change into their Colour Run clothes after lunch.
if your child is not taking part in the Colour Run, please do let us know by emailing admin@riponcathedral.n-yorks.sch.uk or by informing the school office on 01765 602355.
Children will remain outside for the duration of the event and can be picked up directly from the playground when parents and carers arrive at the normal pick up time of 3.10pm/3.15pm.
We are sure that the children will have a great time and the event will raise lots of funds to improve our reading provision in school.
Year 4 Visit to the Ripon Museums
A Trip Back in Time
Year 4 had a wonderful trip to the Ripon Workhouse Museum on Tuesday. Throughout the morning, the children were split into girls and boys to experience what a day in the life of a Victorian pauper girl or boy would be like. For the boys this involved sorting and planting crop seeds and scaring the birds whilst the girls did rug making. All children also experienced what it would be like in a Victorian classroom. In the afternoon, the children had a go at baking bread, Victorian games and chores. They also got a good look around the museum and all the Victorian artefacts. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and were relieved they are no longer expected to make their bed with hospital corners each morning!
I learnt that Victorian children had very strict teachers and if they were naughty they would hit your hands with a cane! - Millie
Victorian children had to make their bed properly or the matron will tell you to do it again and again! - Olive
I enjoyed scaring the birds, which was important back then so they didn't eat the crop seeds. - Jacob
We got to play some Victorian games and my favourite was farmers den it was funny when someone had to be a bone. - Blake
