Peterson's News
12/9-12/13
Good evening,
Our Peterson Singers performed for the school on Friday morning and they did an outstanding job!!! Mrs. Luhn and the singers are definitely ready for their concert on Monday night. Two reminders for Chorus Parents and Students:
- There is no AM rehearsal.
- Students should arrive at 6pm for the 6:30 concert.
Thank you to Mrs. Barentine and Mrs. Sarnowski for surprising staff with the PTA's beverage and treat cart on Friday. It was a great treat and they dressed in costumes for us!
I'm looking forward to another great week!!
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
Parents, we have families who have been allowed the use of a Fast Pass. These are given for various reasons to families. A family with a Fast Pass have a clearly marked sign in their car that identifies this privilege. Please do not be rude when they pull up on the left and try to move to the right to get to our Fast Pass pick-up. If you have a concern with it, please reach out to me.
In addition, I am asking you to please follow the rules for arrival and dismissal.
- There is NO drop-off or pick-up off of Honey Locust. A walker is a student who walks home. It is not for a student who walks to a waiting car.
- Do not turn around in driveways.
- You should not be turning left into the carline from Chinaberry.
- Obey the speed limits.
- Cell phones should not be used in school zones.
I want to remind everyone that when you don't follow these rules, you are modeling to your student that rules are not important. in addition, you could be putting the safety of our students at risk. We are all members of the Peterson School Community and I would hope that we as adults would follow the Panther Pledges of: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Book Fair
It's Book Fair time! The Peterson LMC will be hosting a Book Fair for students, parents, and community members to come and shop for books. This is a great time to stock up for reading for Winter Break. Books make great holiday presents!
On Monday and Tuesday next week, all students will have the opportunity to fill out a "Wish List" indicating the books they find interesting. Please keep these "Wish Lists,” as they will be useful when searching for the books you may be interested in purchasing. It is also very helpful to have them with you as you are browsing at the Book Fair since table numbers are listed on the Wish Lists or if you are sending your child with money to shop on their own during the school day.
The first time the fair will be opened for sales is Wednesday, December 11. Students, parents, and community members are invited to shop during the following days and times:
- Wednesday, December 11
- During school hours 9:30 am - 3:15 pm
- Family Night Shopping Hours 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
- Thursday, December 12
- During school hours 9:15 am - 3:15 pm
- Friday, April 19, 2024
- During school hours 9:15 am - 12:00 pm
If your child will be shopping during the school day, please make sure all money is in a sealed envelope labeled "book fair". If sending a check, please make sure it is made out to Peterson Elementary School. Taxes (7.75%) will be collected for all book sales. Credit card will be accepted by adults who are purchasing books.
"Teacher Wish Lists" will be available in the LMC if parents or students wish to purchase a book for their teacher's classroom library. This is a wonderful gift for teachers, who will use the books with their students for years to come. Please have your student ask the book fair associates for help if you wish to participate.
Students are always excited for the Book Fair and love this time of year in the LMC. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming fair. All proceeds from sales at the fair go towards books, materials, and technology that touch ALL of our students. As always, your support is greatly appreciated!
~Mrs. Sidhwa

Outdoor Recess
Our weather is forecasted to be all over the place in the coming week! Please make sure that your child is dressed to go outside. If it's cold, they should have coats, hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves. If they like to play in the snow, they should also have boots and snowpants. Students will go outside for recess when the temperature is 5 degrees and above including wind-chill.

Families Helping Families
The Indian Prairie Parents’ Council (IPPC), in partnership with District 204, is continuing the Families Helping Families program to support families facing hardship or homelessness through monetary donations and gift cards. This ongoing initiative assists under-resourced families during the winter holidays and throughout the year. Community members can participate by visiting the online store to purchase gift cards or make a donation, making a meaningful difference for families in need. For details, please contact IPPC 1st Vice President and Unity Chair, Robin Schmidt, at ippcpta@gmail.com. If your family needs support, reach out to your school social worker, who can guide you to helpful resources.
Giftmart 2024
Giftmart 2024 needs your help! Please consider donating a toy to assist under resourced families in Naperville. By invitation, parents and/or guardians are invited to the Giftmart Toyshop where they can purchase new toys for $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to each invited school to fund much needed resources. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy that is safe for children ages 6-12. No stuffed animals or board games, please. Both a Target and Amazon Gift Registry have been created or there will be a Giftmart Toy Box located inside of Metea and Waubonsie Valley High Schools, Granger, Crone, Gregory and Fischer Middle Schools, and in Brookdale, Brooks, Cowlishaw, Fry, Graham, Georgetown, Gombert, May Watts, McCarty, Owen, Patterson, PETERSON, Welch, and Young Elementary Schools from November 11 – December 9. Supporting Attendance!
At Peterson, we understand that life can sometimes get in the way of maintaining regular school attendance. It can be difficult to juggle unexpected events, health concerns, or family commitments.
Attendance is essential to your child’s success, not only academically but also socially and emotionally. Each day at school provides opportunities for learning, connecting with friends, and exploring new ideas. We are here to help ensure that every child has the support they need to attend regularly and thrive.
If you’re facing issues that make attendance difficult, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Whether you need assistance with transportation, navigating medical appointments, or other resources, we’re ready to work together to find solutions.
Your child’s success is our top priority, and we believe that by partnering with families, we can help every student succeed.
Safety Concerns
Unfortunately, our community and I continue to witness unsafe driving behavior. We have drivers who are continuing to disobey the crossing guards while students are at or in the crosswalks, drivers who are making u-turns in the middle of Honey Locust, and trying to pick up students from the blacktop off of Honey Locust. Please the safety of all of our students is critically important! I continue to work with our police and district on this issue. I also highly encourage you to fill out the non-emergency form below. We expect our students to follow the expectations, I expect our families to do so too.

New Forgotten Items/Lunch Drop-Off Procedures beginning Wednesday, November 6th.
Beginning Wednesday, November 6th, we will have a new procedure for dropping off forgotten items and lunches. Many elementary buildings are changing their practices in order to strengthen our security procedures, such as decreasing the number of distractions from visitors and opening outside doors during the school day. Keeping the outside doors closed ensures the security of our building. Making these changes will help increase our attention and focus on students in the school.
If a student has forgotten something or a lunch needs to be dropped off, parents can bring the items and place them on the cart outside of the building between 9:15 and 1:00.
Forgotten Items/Lunch Drop-Off Procedures
- Please do not ring the office bell. We can view items and/or lunches from the office camera.
- When you drop off your child’s item and/or lunch, mark your student’s lunch with First and Last Name and Class. Labels and markers are provided on the cart.
- Leave the labeled lunch on the cart.
- The cart and lunches will be brought into the building at regular intervals to ensure students get their items.
- No items will be accepted after 1:00 pm.
Please note that regardless of the temperature or weather, the item/lunch drop-off will remain outdoors. We appreciate Peterson families for supporting and following this new procedure and plan!
Late Start Wednesdays
As in years past, our school district will continue to follow a late start time for every student on Wednesdays. This time is critical to our school and district professional development. The school day will begin at 9:15 a.m. This late start delays both school drop off and morning bus schedules. It does not change our dismissal time of 3:35.
Wednesday Morning Schedule:
- 9:00 a.m. Doors open
- 9:15 a.m. School Starts
