From the Desk of Mr. Ells:
ILEARN is Coming, Let’s Help Our Bearcats Shine!
UTMS Bearcat Crew,
In just one week, on Wednesday, April 23rd, UTMS will begin administering the ILEARN Summative Assessment. This email is to share key details about the test and highlight how, by working together, we can help all of our students succeed.
ILEARN is Indiana’s summative accountability assessment and plays an important role in measuring student achievement and growth based on the Indiana Academic Standards. At UTMS, the assessment includes the following:
English/Language Arts (Grades 6–8)
Mathematics (Grades 6–8)
Science (Grade 6 only)
Our ILEARN Testing Schedule:
Wednesday, April 23 – English/Language Arts (Grades 6–8)
Thursday, April 24 – English/Language Arts Part 2 (Grades 6–8)
Tuesday, April 29 – Math Part 1 (Grades 6–8)
Thursday, May 1 – Math Part 2 (Grades 6–8)
Friday, May 2 – Science (Grade 6 only)
We know that our students are capable of great things, and your support can make a real difference. Here are some ways you can help your student—and all Bearcats—do their best on ILEARN:
Make sure your student gets plenty of rest and a full night’s sleep.
Make sure they eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school to support focus and positive energy.
Encourage perfect attendance during testing, being on time and present each day (school begins at 7:45 AM) helps reduce stress and keep momentum strong.
We also want to give our students an extra boost with snacks during testing to keep them energized. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to donate—this wouldn’t be possible without your generosity! If you’re contributing snacks, please drop them off today or tomorrow in the front office with Mrs. Kruszka.

And stay tuned! Our team is putting the finishing touches on an ILEARN hype video to motivate and energize students. We’re excited to share it with you all very soon!
Thank you for everything you do to support our school and our students. When we work together, great things happen—and I’m confident our Bearcats will rise to the occasion!
Proud to be a Bearcat,
Mr. Ells, Principal
