Nancy Anderson, one of the authors of the National Council of Teacher of Mathematics’ book entitled, Classroom Discussions: Using Math Talk to Help Students Learn, suggests that teachers instruct their students on the importance of and expectations for mathematical conversations at the start of the school year. She explains how talking like mathematicians can enable students to be stronger mathematical thinkers.
