Library with Ms. Ault
In September, fifth graders took a genre personality test to find which category fits their personality best. Ask your child what their genre of choice is. Fifth grade also learned how to access and use Sora which is a collection of ebooks, audio books, and magazines. Fourth grade students learned how to use Britannica, an online encyclopedia, to do research. Students in third grade learned about fractured fairy tales through the You Choose series. Second grade enjoyed the Book, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore and then watched the accompanying short film. First grade students learned vocabulary words and definitions related to the mystery genre through reading Grandpa's Teeth. Ask your child who stole grandpa's teeth. Kindergarten classes are happily learning how to use the library and check out books. Many students in grades K-5 enjoyed guest storytellers from the Lexington Public Library who will be visiting VPE once a month. We are are already looking forward to November, which bring the BOOK FAIR! Look for more information about this event coming soon.
P.E. with Mr. Penrod
Hey VPE families! I hope everyone had a great Fall Break. Moving into October our K-2nd grades will begin learning jump rope skills, using gross and fine motor skills when manipulating equipment. The 3rd-5th grade students will begin basketball skills- dribbling, scoring, and passing. These students will also be refining their gross motor skills throughout our PE classes. If you're looking for family activities in October around Lexington that will get the family moving, the Monster Mash and Dash 5K Glow Run is taking place October 11th.
STEM with Ms. Sproles
September has been full of learning! Kindergarteners have been learning about the needs of animals. In first grade, we are learning about the structure and function of animals. Second graders are learning about biomes on Earth. Third grade students are studying life cycles of both plants and animals. In fourth grade, we are learning about fossils and enjoyed a fun Minecraft lesson to kick off the unit. Finally, in fifth grade, we are learning about food chains and webs as transfers of energy.
