What's Happening at Woodside?
FRIENDSHIP FRIDAY this week!
As you have probably heard, we had to shift gears for our Harvest Festival this year for safety concerns. We are excited to have students participate in the alternative: Friendship Friday! The focus of this day will be around our Buddy Program, as Big and Little Buddies will enjoy fun activities together!
Schedules are still being confirmed, but we are looking toward Friendship Friday stations from roughly 8:30am-12:00pm. We are thrilled at the response we've had so far, but if you are interested and available in helping at this event, please click the following link:

Thank you for your support! We are looking forward to bringing our students together for this event!
School Site Council Voting
We have five nominees for 3 open spots on our School Site Council. We ask that you take a moment to click the link to the Google Form, read through the bios of the Woodside parents who have expressed interest in running for Site Council this year, and vote for THREE individuals. This is a 2 year term and the elected individuals will help make decisions important to our school, in particular, site budget. VOTING CLOSES ON OCTOBER 25 at 5pm.
Respect Assemblies
Our TK-5th Grade Cougars reviewed what they've learned about being Respectful, managing themselves, and more during our SEL/Character Education Assemblies. Each class also acknowledged students for their efforts the last six weeks, and we enjoyed a performance from our Woodside Cheerleaders!

Income Verification: LAST CALL!
Income verification is essential to funding for ALL sites and must be collected by 10/31/2024.
This information is essential for securing both state and federal funding. Our goal is to achieve 100% completion (excluding those who opt out) by the final collection date of October 31, 2023.
Without correct information, district and site funding is at risk.
A variety of critical programs, grants, and funding, for ALL schools, is dependent on data related to income levels. School funding information is used to determine priority access to various programs that provide resources for all students, like on-line tutoring, summer programs, enrichment, intervention, additional staff, technology and supplemental materials.
It’s important for families to understand that this information is kept confidential.

Red Ribbon/Bully Prevention Week is Coming! Oct. 28-Nov. 1
Be Drug Free and Let Kindness Rule!
Red Ribbon and Bully Prevention Week is an annual motivator to show intolerance for drugs in our communities. Each year during the end of October, more than 80 million young people and adults show their commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle by wearing or displaying a red ribbon. Many schools also take time to show spirit towards these goals, making the student voice celebratory! Our theme this year is Be Drug Free and Let Kindness Rule! Our Peer Mentor group has worked hard to organize this fun week and show their leadership skills!
Join us for the following Spirit Days:
Mon. Oct. 28: School Opposite Day - dress like your teacher!
Tues. Oct. 29: Use your head and don't do drugs - wear a hat!
Wed. Oct. 30: Keep your future BRIGHT - wear neon and bright colors!
Thurs. Oct. 31: Character Day - dress as your favorite book character!
Fri. Nov. 1: Red Ribbon Day - wear red!
Kids Can! Food Drive
Bring canned and non-perishable food items to your classroom to help those less fortunate in our community! We are beginning on Monday, Oct. 14th, and will collect until Nov. 1st! Share your care for others.
The KCRA 3 Kids Can! Food Drive has been helping to feed hungry families in our community since 1987. Children, parents and teachers brought in more than 153,000 pounds of food in 2023. We need your help now more than ever and hope that you will be able to participate in the drive once again.
Woodside PTO
The PTO would like to thank all of the parents who signed up for the Harvest Festival to either help or decorate a car we appreciate the support. As you have heard the Harvest Festival was canceled, but we are looking forward to the festivities on Friday, October 25th.

Innovative School Design Updates
The staff is currently working on “seeing the systems” of behavior and attendance. This is an important first step in innovation and design thinking. Do you have some thoughts on this for your own child and the experiences they’re having at Woodside? Please reach out to me for a chat. I’d love to hear more from the community about these two important topics. Please email me at dvictor@sanjuan.edu, and we can set up a time for a conversation.
