Red Ribbon Week is October 23-30

This Years Theme is: "Send a Message: Stay Drug Free"

The theme is a call to action to speak out in support of healthy choices. The theme is also a reminder that by staying drug free, you are sending a message to yourself and others about how much you value yourself, your overall health, your community, and your future.


By participating in the theme days students and staff are sending a positive message:


Wednesday, October 23 - "Turn your Back on Drugs" (Wear your shirt backwards to symbolize your commitment to saying no to unhealthy choices."

Thursday, October 24- "Pair Up Against Drugs or Friends Don’t Let Friends Do Drugs" ‐ Twin day (Accountability partners)

Friday, October 25- "Put A Cap on Drugs Day or Use Your Head" ‐ Wear a hat

Monday, October 28- "Sock It to Drugs or It’s Crazy to Do Drugs" ‐ Wear crazy socks

Tuesday, October 29- "My Future Is Too Bright for Drugs" ‐ Wear neon colors

Wednesday, October 30- “Living without Drugs/Alcohol is No Sweat.” Wear sweats/workout clothes

School Board Appreciation Week is October 21-25

Boards of education guide their local school systems and ensure public schools are flexible and responsive to the needs of the community. Our school board is comprised of volunteers whom do not receive any compensation for their service. They are individuals within the community who dedicate their time to improving public education. We would like to recognize the following Gananda Board Of Education members and thank them for all they do to ensure all of our students are educated for success:

The annual Gananda K-12 Science Fair will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Experiment, explore, and fulfill your curiosity! Registration forms, important deadlines, and other information will be posted to the Gananda Science Fair webpage in the coming months. Questions can be directed to ScienceFair@gananda.org.

Gananda Education Foundation November Meeting Cancelled

Due to conflict, the Gananda Education Foundation has cancelled its November meeting. Meetings will resume on December 3.

I heard....is it true?

Gananda Central School District recognizes the importance of communication with parents, community members, students and staff. While every effort is made to ensure that accurate information is shared, it is not uncommon for rumors or myths to be circulating throughout the community. As such, we have started a page on our website entitled, "Fact Checker Page." This page is dedicated to providing accurate information about GCSD. If you see or hear information about GCSD that you believe is inaccurate you can have it fact checked! Please send your contact information, the facts you would like checked, and where you found the information to Shannon Bergstresser, Public Relations Specialist, at: Sbergstresser@gananda.org. Congratulations to the October Mathletes who competed at Wayne High School last week. They came in 2nd place and had a record amount of students who scored a perfect category in a single meet.

Special shout out to Rocco and Dmitri for scoring the most points for the team!

#Unity

Last week Gananda staff paid it forward to Brockport School District, who suffered a loss of one of their teachers. Our staff joined together to wear Brockport’s school colors and sent a cookie tray over to Barclay Elementary School. Earlier this year, Victor School District did the same for us when we suffered a loss of one of our teachers, and we were more than happy to repeat the act of kindness.

Great job to all of the Gananda students volunteering for the Gananda Rotary Haunted Hayrides! The students are earning volunteer time that can be used when applying for Gananda Dollars for Scholars scholarships.

If you missed opening weekend, there’s still time...there are 3 more nights:
10/18, 10/19, 10/25 7-10pm (last wagon leaves at 930pm)

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased with cash at the door. Wagons can also be reserved with 24 hrs notice by calling Patti at 585 739 9521.

Your PTO Calendar Now Available

We are excited to announce the creation of a Gananda PTO 2019-2020 Calendar. The calendars contain district news along with student artwork.


The calendars are $5.00 each and can be ordered by emailing the Gananda PTO or messaging them on the Gananda PTO Facebook Page.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the calendars will be donated to the art department in each of our three buildings to help supplement their materials & supplies budget for the 2019-2020 school year.

Did you know that you can start gathering volunteer hours as soon as you leave 8th grade? Just download a volunteer log from the Gananda Dollars for Scholars webpage, and start recording your high school volunteer experience!

Fall United Way Campaigns Area Wide

Did you know that you can designate Gananda Dollars for Scholars on your annual United Way Pledge form? Just write in the code#3323 on your form and your pledge will come to GDFS!
