The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: October 6, 2024
Happy Sunday, Pride!
Before I share some thoughts with you about the upcoming fall break, I want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible achievements of our students and sports teams:
Our boys' cross-country team is currently ranked as the top 1A team in the state halfway through the season!
Riverwalk's swim team, though not officially part of the region, was invited to compete in the 4A Region Championships. A special shout-out to Wyatt Krasner, who placed 4th overall in the 200-yard Freestyle and qualified for the State Championships. At the 4A region meet yesterday, our boys’ team triumphed over Buford High School and Richland Northeast High School!
Hank Farquhar, a 4th-grade student, achieved a perfect score on last year's SC Ready 3rd Grade Math Assessment. This is an amazing accomplishment!
Natalie Estes, one of our 10th graders, won for Dairy Goat Showmanship in the Senior Division at the York County Fall Livestock Show on September 6th. This win also comes with a scholarship to support her post-secondary education.
We love celebrating our students’ successes inside and outside of the classroom, and we encourage you to share any more good news with us!
Now, as we look forward to fall break, I’d like to take a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication our students and staff have demonstrated since the start of the school year. From early mornings to class projects, after-school activities, and all the hard work in between—including the accomplishments of the students mentioned above—it's clear that everyone has been giving their best. Now, it's time to pause and take a deep breath.
This break is the perfect opportunity for our students to rest, recharge, and reconnect with their families. It's a chance to step away from the school routine, enjoy the changing of seasons, and focus on relaxation and self-care. Whether that means getting lost in a good book, spending time outdoors, or sharing more family moments, these breaks are vital for our overall well-being.
Encourage your child to reflect on their achievements over the past few months, both academically and personally. Celebrate their progress. And while resting is important, it’s also a great time to spark curiosity with new hobbies or experiences that bring joy and foster creativity.
Let’s all use this time to come back stronger, refreshed, and ready to finish the second half of the semester with renewed energy.
Enjoy your fall break, Lions! We look forward to seeing everyone well-rested and ready when we return.
In Pride and Purpose,
~Dr. Compton
This past Wednesday, we had the honor of hosting a barbecue for our hardworking contracting and construction teams. These dedicated individuals are an integral part of our Riverwalk Pride, and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing efforts in bringing our new upper school facility to fruition.

While there has been a lot of support for our neighbors in the mountains that have been hit so hard by Hurricane Helene, our athletic department wanted to show our support to our local community as well. Winthrop University has been closed all week and the students on campus are in need of food items that are small and easily transportable. We will be collecting items such as granola bars, pop tarts, ramen noodles and microwaveable meals until Monday for Winthrop students. Items can be dropped off Monday in D19 at York Tech.
