STUDENT ATTENDANCE COUNTS
Every day at school is a new opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and shine. Let’s make each day count together!
- Texas public school students must attend school at least 90% of the time a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade.
- If a student has three or more unexcused absences, days or parts of days within a four week period or ten or more days or parts of days within a six month period, they are considered truant.
- Excused absences in Texas public schools count as absences, but they don't count against a student and they don't count toward truancy. Excused absences are counted as if the student attended school for purposes of calculating average daily attendance.

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL
Dear Barbara Jordan Elementary Parents,
Effective communication between home and school is key to ensuring your child’s success. We encourage you to stay connected with your child’s teachers regularly to discuss progress, share any concerns, and collaborate on ways to best support your child’s learning journey.
Here are a few simple ways to establish strong communication with teachers:
- Check your child’s schoolwork regularly to stay informed on their progress.
- Reach out via email or phone if you have any questions or need clarification.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences to discuss your child’s strengths and areas for growth.
- Follow up on classroom newsletters or updates to stay engaged in classroom activities.
Together, we can ensure the best support for your child’s academic and personal growth.
Thank you for your continued partnership!
