®️ December SEL Trait - Mindfulness ®️
Good afternoon Riverton families!
A quick shout out to Mr. Zaun and our 4th and 5th grade students who participated in the Riverton School's annual Turkey Trot. This event promotes exercise
and cardiovascular health!
**Please remember to have your child wear their winter coats, hats and gloves, as we will continue to go outside when weather permits! Brrrrrrrrr.**
If you are in need of winter jackets, please contact Mrs. Elizabeth Almeida
As we embrace December's theme of mindfulness, it's an excellent opportunity for our entire school community—staff, caregivers, and students—to cultivate how mindfulness can positively
impact our daily lives. Mindfulness, which involves paying attention to the present moment intentionally and without judgment, can significantly enhance our educational experience.
I would encourage all caregivers to support this initiative by encouraging mindful practices at home, and reinforcing the skills students learn at school. Students benefit directly from mindfulness through improved focus, emotional regulation, and social skills, which contribute to higher academic achievement and a more positive school experience. One example of applied mindfulness is our students practicing perspective-taking and showing increased empathy towards their peers as a result of mindfulness-based SEL activities or conflict resolution. A second example is a student using mindfulness techniques to manage test anxiety by focusing on their breath and present moment experiences.
By integrating mindfulness into our daily routines, we can collectively foster an environment that supports personal growth and academic success for all members of our school community.
With gratitude,
Mr. Zagorski
