Notes from Nurse B
The clinic often gets a little busier during the holiday season with fevers, stomach concerns, headaches, sore throats... If your child is not feeling well, please refer to the FSSD Illness Guidelines to determine if your student can attend school. If you have any questions about the illness guidelines, please feel free to contact Nurse B at 615-472-3906 or email boyntonmar@fssd.org.
If you keep your student home from school, please remember to send a note or email the attendance secretary at brownkri@fssd.org or school nurse letting us know why your student is not at school. If you take your student to a medical practitioner, please provide the return to school documentation from the practitioner so your student's attendance is correctly documented.
Mr. Welch's Counselor's Corner
It is hard to believe that winter and the Holidays are almost here. For December, our character word is KINDNESS. In Guidance, students will be learning about what it means to be kind in all aspects of life. This will include discussing KINDNESS at school, with friends, and with family. We will also focus on respect, problem solving and making good choices.
Personal boundaries are limits and rules that someone sets for themselves in relationships. Someone with healthy personal boundaries is comfortable saying "no", when they feel their personal boundary is being broken. Our students will learn the importance of saying "no" when they feel unsafe and when to tell an adult about a boundary being broken.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season!
Mercy Health Care
As the holidays approach, many of our households will experience changes to routine including sleep disruptions, social demands, and heightened expectations for holiday events. Following these celebrations, our homes will experience transition again as we adjust back into normal sleep and school routines in January. These transitions can create big feelings in all of us, but especially for our children that are still developing the ability to understand and regulate their emotions. We encourage you to read the handout included at the back of your pride press for tips on how to help your child cope with their big feelings. Please also reach out to your school counselor or Mercy team if you have additional concerns about your child's needs.
Midyear Benchmark Assessments
The window for our mid-year benchmarking assessments is December 4-January 19. Your child’s teacher will share the exact day they will be taking the assessment.
You can help by making sure students are well rested, have a calm morning, and a good breakfast. Look for their results to be shared by teachers afterwards and if you need help understanding the report or have any questions about their learning progress, don’t hesitate to reach out. We use these mid year benchmark assessments to guide our next instructional steps so it is very important we get the most accurate results possible during the assessment window.
Arrival and Dismissal
Morning Car Arrival
Please remember our doors do not open until 7:00 am each morning. If you arrive before 7:00, please be sure to pull all the way down to the car in front of you and keep students in your vehicle until 7:00 when the doors unlock.
