NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS - OCTOBER 10TH AND 11TH
Please remember that there is no school for students next Thursday (10/10) and Friday (10/11). Some caregivers are attending conferences with teachers on Thursday and some have had conferences in the weeks leading up to this day. If you have not had an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s), please reach out directly to them to set something up.
MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Good Afternoon CCS Caregivers and Charlotte Residents,
CCS had a very exciting start to the day with the 6th-grade students leading our all-school meeting. Sixth graders all participated on a committee and managed one portion of the production; the greeting, the sharing of a short, the activity (more to come about this), a cool-down and a display of 6th grade art. The game for today was a whole-school Rock-Paper-Scissors game. Each grade level competed for a winner and those grade level winners went up against the winner from another grade. The CCS Champion of the Rock-Paper-Scissors contest was Teal, from third grade. Congratulations, Teal!
A special thank you to all of the caregivers who contributed to the Friday Folino’s Staff Appreciation luncheon. Everyone loved this special treat and to spend a little time with the parents here helping. A heart-felt appreciation for giving everyone a day off from packing a lunch. It means a lot!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Jen and Tim

SAFETY AT CCS
GOVERNOR'S SAFETY CONFERENCE
This past week, Jen attended the Governor’s Safety Conference with other members of the CVSD leadership and safety teams. We learned about trends in school safety and reviewed the most up-to-date recommendations for practices and procedures. School safety can be categorized in many ways, and it takes our whole community to work together to create the best learning ecosystem we can be. At CCS and in CVSD we utilize our interagency model to collaborate, standardize our procedures, and learn from our most trained partners. In the coming weeks, we will practice these important protocols and share the successes and learning opportunities we discover.
- During the week of October 7th, we will practice a “School- LockDown.” This process includes scripts for classroom teachers to use, leveled to be developmentally appropriate for our students. This is one layer of the options-based responses we practice. Students will hear prompts that this is a practice and they should give their full attention to the adult they are with.
- During the week of October 14, all of our students will have the opportunity to learn about safety when riding a bus.
- During the week of October 21, the CCS staff will run an exercise that uses procedures for evacuating the school and relocating.
- During the week of October 28, we will collaborate with the Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department. Students in K-4 will learn about Fire Safety, and the whole school will practice a fire drill.
The CVSD Website has resources for you to review to understand all that is going on behind the scenes so the staff and students can focus on the most important learning and social opportunities we can offer them at CCS. Our guidance and procedures evolve through the VT School Safety Center and in collaboration with our mutual aid partners.
HAZING HARASSMENT AND BULLYING ROADSHOWS FOR 5TH-8TH GRADES
At Charlotte Central School, we are committed to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment where every student in our community is treated with respect. As part of this mission, for the next few weeks, we will provide middle-level students with education focused on understanding bullying and harassment. Our CVSD policy, F34: Policy on the Prevention of Harassment, Hazing, and Bullying of Students, is the structure our administrative team uses to respond to challenging situations between students. We proactively work with students to understand examples of the behavior, as well as strategies for responding to and reporting incidents of alleged misconduct. Our goal is to empower students with knowledge and tools for becoming allies and upstanders to build a strong and safe community at CCS and beyond.

LOST AND FOUND IS OVERFLOWING
Yes, after only 5 weeks our lost and found rack in the front lobby is overflowing.
With the cool mornings and the warm afternoons, there are so many sweaters, hoodies, and sweatshirts that have already made there way to the rack. The ever present lost water bottles also.
Please have your child(ren) check the lost and found for their missing items. We hate to give away people's clothes/water bottles/lunch boxes but we have a limited amount of space to store it. IT WILL BE DONATED OVER THE OCT 10TH AND 11TH BREAK.
Also, if you are driving by or come to pick up your child(ren) from CCS between the office hours of 7:30 and 4:00, please feel free to come into the lobby to check for your family's missing items.
SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH
Dear CVSD Community,
Earlier this year, the CVSD school board announced the hiring of Adam Bunting as interim superintendent of our district for this school year. At the same time, we announced that we would conduct a thorough search for a permanent superintendent during the 2024-25 school year that included obtaining community input.
The board is pleased to announce that we have begun the process of identifying the next permanent superintendent of our district and extend an invitation to the community to get involved in the process. The search will be facilitated by CVSD’s Director of Human Resources (HR). Information about how to get involved is included on our website, https://www.cvsdvt.org/. Scroll down to the headline for the Superintendent Search.
Throughout the fall and early winter. we will provide the community with periodic updates on our progress. Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
Sincerely,
Meghan Metzler, Chair, CVSD School Board
Keith Roberts, Chair, CVSD HR Committee
