A Message from Marcie
Thanks for a great week, South Park!
Today we began our Go Penguins 10-Day Countdown! This will continue through our final day of school on Friday, June 7th. Dress-up participation is completely optional, but the dates and themes are listed below for students who would like to join in.
Additionally, we look forward to Field Day and Helping Hands Day next Friday, May 31. It is customary for students to wear a grade level color on Field Day so that we can promote the spirit of the event while easily identifying where each grade level is located when out on the field.
The colors for each grade level are as follows:
Kindergarten - White
1st Grade - Blue
2nd Grade - Green
3rd Grade - Blue
4th Grade - Yellow
5th Grade - Grade Level Shirt
We strongly recommend sending students to school next Friday with a spare set of clothes since many of our Field Day events include water. As of right now, it looks like it will be nice and sunny, but if the forecast changes, it is important to know that we will do everything we can to avoid cancelling Field Day. We have run previous Field Days in drizzling/light rain, and as long as students (and volunteers) dress for the weather, it is still a fun day for everyone! We will be in touch if we notice a change in the forecast. Fingers crossed for a sunny day!
Have a wonderful long weekend!

Go Penguins - Final Countdown
Learning Commons Corner
We’ve had a great year in the South Park Learning Commons. This infographic shows some of our highlights enhancing literacy of all kinds! New opportunities for our penguins this year have included Monarch Mondays, our new VR sets, and a record number of new books, thanks to the funds raised through the Read-a-thon.
Though school is almost done for the year, it’s not the time to stop reading! It’s no secret that the best way to improve at reading is to read more! What you might not know is that kids who read for fun also have better social-emotional skills, especially in the area of empathy for others. Linked below are recommended summer reading lists suitable for students moving into each grade. Summer is a great time to get off the screens and read as a family, listen to audiobooks on a road trip, or chill by the pool with a great book!
Join South Park Singers for the 2024-25 School Year
If your child loves to sing, we would love to invite them to join the South Park Singers!
South Park Singers is an extracurricular activity open to 3rd-5th grade students. Rehearsals will be after school from 3:30-4:00 pm one day per week next year. We are asking for input below before we select the rehearsal day.
Cold Weather Gear for Incoming 6th Graders - 2nd Posting
Caruso is pleased to offer cold weather gear options for ALL 6th, 7th & 8th grade Physical Education (PE) Classes. We want to emphasize that purchasing these items is entirely optional. However, should you decide to acquire them, students will have the flexibility to wear these specialized garments both indoors and outdoors during PE sessions.
Our initiative to provide these specialized items is designed to ensure that students have suitable attire for PE activities, distinct from their regular school attire. This distinction is crucial as regular clothing can become sweaty and soiled during physical exertion. Additionally, the Cold Weather Gear features students' names on the backs of the sweatshirts, adding a personalized touch.
To place an order for the Caruso hoodie and sweatpants, please click on the provided link below. Orders will be conveniently delivered directly to the school during the first week of August and distributed on locker day or during the first week of school should you choose to wait. Kindly note that Wednesday, July 10, 2024 is the hard deadline for placing orders.
Other Important Information ⚠️
- All visitors to South Park School MUST bring a valid driver's license or state ID card to the main office before entering into the building. Beginning this year, we will collect IDs during your visit and return it to you as you leave.
- If your child is going to be absent from school, you need to call or email us by 9:00 that morning. ** Call 847-945-5895, ext. 2103 and leave a message OR ** Email Nurse Nora Moskos.
- Please follow our morning procedures, and drop your children off at their regular grade level doors. If you choose to drive through the front circle at arrival, kindly stay in your car when you drop off to help us reduce morning congestion.
- K-5 drop-off is between 8:35-8:45 a.m. Students who arrive after 8:45 a.m. will need to enter through the front door of the school, as all other doors will be locked.
- Dismissal for all Kindy and 1st-grade walkers and car riders will take place at their grade level door.
- Early Learners drop-off/pick-up info can be found here.
- When parking in our Birchwood parking lot, please remember that our preschoolers are dropped off and picked up by the west end (closest to the school). Sometimes, their parents' cars can block a parked car from exiting for a few minutes. To avoid that, we suggest that you park closer to Birchwood Avenue.
