Happy Friday!

We've been busy as usual at the DeMello School! This week our 5th graders traveled to Barney's Joy Beach as part of our Lloyd Center's Coastal Studies science unit. Wednesday's rainy weather led us to pivot away from our annual Boosterthon Fun Run outside to an indoor dance party in the cafeteria. The students seemed to enjoy the dancing and music very much. We hope your child came home happy with some fun stories about this event! On Thursday, our 5th grader Howler Newspaper team traveled to DHS to record a news and information show! A big thanks to Mrs. Jasmine Olean for getting this group ready for this big event! Stay tuned for details on when and how that will be shared. And today, we celebrated our students' hard work in ST Math and participation in March MATH-ness with a celebratory parade led by our favorite penguin, Jiji! A special shoutout to all of our students who have completed their ST Math journey as well as Mrs. Depin's and Mrs. McNaught's 3rd graders, who won the bracket tourney. They will be turning Mr. Hill and I into human sundaes in the very near future🙄

Next week, we are looking forward to guest readers, a 1st grade field trip to the zoo and Bingo for Books! We hope to see you there😊

A big thanks to our math team, Mrs. Jen Fitton, Ms. Kelly D'Ambrosio and Mrs. Deb McGillick for participating in Tuesday night's Dartmouth Education Foundation's annual Spelling Bee! Also, thanks go to Mr. Hill and Mrs. Heidi Brooks for teaming up with me. The DEF provides Dartmouth educators with grant funding to enhance learning throughout the district. We have received numerous grants from the DEF over the years, and are so appreciative of their help and support. The bee is their primary source of funding and it was our pleasure to participate this year!

As you may already know, the DeMello School is welcoming the three kindergarten classrooms from the Cushman School in the fall. We couldn't be more excited to have the kindergarten back at DeMello for the first time in many years! It will be wonderful to have these little ones here for the entirety of their elementary years. I can't wait to greet them in August!

Please see the attached Kindergarten registration flyer and be sure to register your K student as soon as possible. Also, if you know of anyone in town who has a child who will be 5 before September 1st, please encourage them to register immediately. The key to starting the new year successfully is in knowing how many kindergarten students we need to plan for, and planning starts NOW!
