First and Second Graders are Now Waiting Outside for the School Day to Begin
It is officially Spring! This means that the First and Second Graders will wait on their outdoor line spots until 8:05 AM each morning. Please dress your children appropriately for the colder morning weather. Morning supervision begins at 7:45 AM.
Student Lunch Debt
We all need help sometimes: if you need assistance paying your child's lunch debt, Ruby's Pantry in Mount Horeb wants to help!
Reminder: Parent/Guardian Input Needed for 24/25 Class Placement
Just a reminder, we are asking current 4K-2 families to complete an input survey, one per child, by Friday, March 22, 2024; it should only take a few moments. The surveys are linked below. Please choose the survey that corresponds with your child's current grade:
Current 4K Student or Incoming 24/25 Kindergarten Student
Thank you, again, for your continued partnership and valuable feedback. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of support to you in any way.

Rachael Johnson, Principal
Summer School Registration Information
Did you know that Summer School can provide free and engaging courses for your child this summer? Our Summer School schedule provides students with structure but still allows you and your family plenty of time for all of their summer activities. Pre-registration for students who have received an invite to our skills booster classes is due Friday, March 22! Online registration for all other incoming elementary students in grades 1-5 will open on Tuesday, April 2, at 8:00 AM. As in past years, all courses may be filled by the end of the day so register right away!
Please visit our Summer School webpage to learn more and reference pages 31-35 of our Summer School Course Catalog for registration information. All registration will occur within your family Infinite Campus portal. If you do not know your Infinite Campus Parent Portal information, please reach out now to Sierra Bucher; if you call for assistance on registration day, we cannot guarantee that you will receive your portal information before registration closes.
A couple of other items to note:
As you register, courses may become unavailable and will not be displayed on the list of courses.
Math and Reading Skills Boosters classes are intended for students who are recommended and may need more practice with current grade-level foundational skills. These classes are not intended for students who are on grade level; however, the Reading and Math Minds courses may be great options if you are looking for an opportunity for your child to continue building on their academic skills.
The Mount Horeb Area School District Summer School 2024 Catalog promises an unforgettable summer filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories. Enroll on April 2 and embark on a summer of exploration and growth!
If you have any questions, please reach out to Jesse Meudt.

Physical Education News
Happy (almost) spring from the PC Gymnasium! Many great things have been happening recently in our P.E. classes, and I hope you have been hearing all about them at home. We did so much awesome stuff this winter during our Bowling/ Underhand rolling unit as well as our Basketball unit. Students were able to learn all the basics of the underhand roll and get plenty of practice using the proper technique. Kids are stepping with their opposite foot, swinging the ball straight back and forth, and making sure the ball is rolling nice and smooth just like the pros! We carried over this technique into our basketball passes and dribbling practice using both our “favorite” and “not favorite” hands. Going forward, we plan to continue using our “stepping with the opposite foot” technique in our upcoming units like Tee Ball and Bean Bag toss.
Speaking of spring activities, with warmer weather approaching, it’s time for my friendly shoe reminder. In the coming weeks we will be doing many activities that require your students to move in many different ways both in the gym and outside in our green spaces. Please do your best to send appropriate footwear with you student(s) so that they can participate to their best ability without risking injury. While sandals, flip flops, and Crocs (even in sport mode) are often popular as it gets warmer outside, they do not offer the safest support for higher level activity. Classroom teachers have been doing a great job reminding students to change their shoes prior to coming to class, so if you have been sending an extra pair already, THANK YOU!
Kindergarten Concert and Gallery Walk
We are so excited for our upcoming Kindergarten Music Concert! The concert will take place Friday, April 19 starting at 2:00 PM at the Primary Center. Please note that our concert will take place in the Primary Center gymnasium.
This year we are also excited to announce that in conjunction with the Kindergarten concert, we will be hosting a kindergarten art gallery walk! There will be a map printed on the back of your concert program that will guide your art gallery tour. After the concert, you may go pick up your child from their designated area and do the gallery walk together. With this event taking place near the end of our school day, we simply ask that you complete your gallery walk no later than 2:50 PM so that we can safely clear the hallways to get our students ready for dismissal.
We will be unlocking the north, south, and west Primary Center gymnasium doors starting at 1:30 PM. Guests will not be permitted into the building before 1:30 PM. We are encouraging families to park on Academy St. and 2nd St. There will only be minimal parking available in the PC lot and down in the ELC lot.
In our gymnasium, we will have bleacher and chair seating. We ask that the chair seating be reserved for visitors with mobility limitations, parents with small children, and as overflow seating once the bleachers are full.
At the end of the concert, teachers will be taking their students to a designated area. Parents will be dismissed by class to check in with the classroom teacher and pick up their child and then complete the art gallery walk.
The children are very excited about performing for us and sharing their artwork! Thank you for being a part of this event. We are looking forward to seeing you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Knapp, Music Teacher, Ms. Godfrey, Art Teacher & Mrs. Johnson, Principal
Absence Notification Process - Please Notify the Office
