PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Barbara Jordan Elementary School Community,
My name is Mr. Leiva, and I am beyond excited to join the Barbara Jordan Elementary community as your new principal. I hope this message finds you all well and that your children have had an enjoyable start to the school year.
As we begin this new school year, I want to emphasize our commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. Our goal is to provide a high-quality education that not only meets academic standards but also nurtures the social and emotional growth of our students.
I believe in the power of collaboration and open communication. Together, we can create a school culture that encourages curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning. I look forward to working closely with our talented teachers, supportive staff, and engaged parents to ensure that every child at Barbara Jordan Elementary has the opportunity to thrive.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have. My door is always open, and I am eager to hear from you.
Thank you for welcoming me into this wonderful community. Let’s make this school year a fantastic one!
Sincerely,
Mr. Leiva

STUDENT ATTENDANCE COUNTS
Every day at school is a new opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and shine. Let’s make each day count together!
- Texas public school students must attend school at least 90% of the time a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade.
- If a student has three or more unexcused absences, days or parts of days within a four week period or ten or more days or parts of days within a six month period, they are considered truant.
- Excused absences in Texas public schools count as absences, but they don't count against a student and they don't count toward truancy. Excused absences are counted as if the student attended school for purposes of calculating average daily attendance.
