Budget Hearings
The Phenix City Board of Education conducted two public budget hearings prior to the work session and board meeting.
Student Presentation
Mrs. Kristen Ciancio and two Central High School students joined us at the August board meeting to not only lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, but shared details related to the recent Chips4Chips Camp over the summer.

Informational Items:
- Alabama House of Representatives Presentation: Representative Chris Blackshear presented a check for the 8 schools in his district for a total amount of $87,000. Representative Berry Forte presented the $1,000 to the band program.
- Overnight and/or In-State Field Trips: The Board was made aware of all overnight and in-state field trips occurring over the next month.
After School Program
Westview Elementary School's after-school instructional program will begin September 2, 2024, and conclude on April 3, 2025. The program will run Monday to Thursdays at no cost to parents.

Key Decisions and Updates from the Latest Board Meeting
The board was presented with and discussed several critical items to enhance operational efficiency and educational quality within Phenix City Schools. These items include:
Approvals:
Approved Job Descriptions: The Board approved the job descriptions for Paraprofessional (English Learner) and STEAM Teacher (Visual Arts).
Approved Employee Assistance Program: The Board approved the Pastoral Institute Employee Assistance Program.
Approved Accounting Procedure Manual: The Board approved the accounting procedure manual.
Approved Board Minutes & Financial Reports: The Board approved of the minutes for the July 18, 2024, Board Meeting and the July 30, 2024, Called Board Meeting. The Board also approved the July 2024 board and local school accounting (LSA) accounts payable check registers and the financial statements reflecting current general ledger and bank reconciliation balances as approved by the Superintendent.
Approved FY 25 Budget: The Board approved the proposed FY 2025 budget.
Approved Teachers Bill of Rights: The Board approved the proposed Teachers Bill of Rights.
Approved Student Code of Conduct: The Board approved the Student Code of Conduct. Information will be provided to principals and assistant principals in leadership meetings next week.
Approved Five-Year Capital Plan: The Board approved the proposed Five-Year Capital Plan.
Approved CHS Graduation Contract: The board approved of the contract with the Columbus Civic Center for CHS Graduation on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Approved Adoption of Textbooks: The Board approved of the textbook adoption of the Career and Technical Education areas of Cosmetology and Culinary Arts.
Approved Child Nutrition Bids: The Board approved of a bread bid, awarded to Flowers Bakery and a fresh produce bid, awarded to Quality Produce for the Child Nutrition Program.
Approved Out of State Field Trips: The Board approved three out-of-state field trips.
Approved Personnel Recommendations: The Board approved the Superintendent's recommendations regarding personnel changes.
