August 23rd 2024 Principal's Message
Hello Blevins Families,
I'd like to start by acknowledging that this was a trying week for our Bruin community. As communicated on Monday, we began the week with the death of one of our 6th grade students to a medical event on Sunday. As a school, we are here to wrap our arms around the student's family and the friends she made here. In the hardest circumstances, I'm incredibly proud of our students and staff for the manner in which they have responded. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you feel that your child needs support.
Please join us for our first PTO meeting this year on Tuesday, September 3rd at 5:30pm. This is a great time to join the group! Blevins is on a mission to get the good word out regarding the amazing work that our staff and students do every day. Join the conversation as we discuss our fall fundraiser and the important work we are doing this year related to Project-Based Learning. Can't wait to see you there!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Proudly,
Joe Zappa, Principal

Boston/New York 8th Grade Trip Interest Meeting
Boston/New York 8th Grade Trip Interest Meeting August 29th at 5:30 in the Library
“Hi families! Bruins are taking flight! We're excited to tell you more about the trip with EF Explore America to Boston and New York this spring break. Please register for our info session to be considered for our upcoming travel opportunity HERE. In our session, we'll cover everything from how this will benefit your child, what's included in the experience, how we'll keep the trip safe and affordable, and much more. Plus, if we haven't met yet, it's a good chance to learn more about me as both an educator and a Group Leader. We have a few seats on the trip remaining, so I hope to see you there and get your student signed up for a memorable experience!”
After School Bruin Club
Blevins Middle School is excited to offer our after-school program, Bruin Club, starting Monday, 9/16/2024! This after-school program, which is funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, Cohort X, offers students homework help, enrichment clubs, and community connection opportunities, while giving them a safe place to build relationships with other students. Bruin club is a drop-in based program and will be held from 2:25pm to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The fall session runs 9/16/24 - 12/12/24. New this year: all students will have to have a “Permission to Participate” form turned in before participating in Bruin Club.
Transportation: If your student needs to ride the bus home from Bruin Club during our fall session, you are required to fill out the “Permission to Participate” form. Forms must be submitted to Izzy Crume or the school office by Wednesday, 8/28/24 by 3pm. Note: bussing is not guaranteed, but if available bussing will pick students up at 5pm. Transportation will start on 9/16/24 if available.
Forms: The permission to participate form will be sent home with your student during your students' homeroom class. You can also download the form and print or fill it out virtually and email it to Izzy Crume at icrume@psdschools.org. Printed versions of the form can be brought to the front office at Blevins Middle School. Note: if you have multiple students at Blevins, please fill out separate forms for each student.
Questions: If you have any questions regarding Bruin Club, please contact Izzy Crume at (970)657-6612 or email icrume@psdschools.org.
