TES Updates

We are incredibly proud of Mrs. Fiscarelli's class, who led a district-wide effort to collect gift cards for families impacted by Hurricane Ida in Manville and Lambertville. As a district, in two weeks, we collected 82 gift cards totaling close to $2,000 to Shoprite, Home Deport, Lowes, Walmart, and other stores that can provide much-needed supplies for these families. The kind and generous support of our community does not go unnoticed and our students who led this effort are incredibly grateful!

I also want to use this newsletter to provide clarity on how and when we provide quarantine instruction for COVID-19 related illnesses. You may reference the plan linked here (and below) if and when your child becomes ill with COVID-19, is named a close contact of someone with COVID-19, or is in quarantine, awaiting results of a PCR test. Our plan for quarantine instruction will be provided virtually within 24 hours. For example, if a student is named a close contact and notified Monday evening of the need to quarantine, our teachers will be notified the next morning and will begin to prepare and implement quarantine learning by Wednesday morning. Please be patient with us, as students in grades K-4 do not have district devices at home, and it takes some time to put together work and implement the plan. This virtual learning process is not for students on vacation or at home with another illness. Please know we are doing our best to meet the needs of our students and families in unprecedented times and ask for your patience and understanding.

Last, and certainly not least, this past week we celebrated the Week of Respect at TES with a daily theme and activities to support that theme. There were countless moments of kindness and respect observed around TES, and we are so proud of the great character our students possess! Let this be the beginning of a great year of our students demonstrating kindness and respect toward one another.

In 1st grade, students were busy identifying, representing, and comparing numbers 1-10, while also identifying and completing number patterns. In reading, students have been busy rotating through guided reading groups and independent literacy centers. In writing, students each wrote a goal they have for first grade. Students also learned how to stretch a sentence by adding more detail through the use of question words. Students looked at and learned how to make a "WOW" picture. A WOW picture is neat, outlined, has tons of details, lots of colors, and has labels. In Social Studies, students learned all about American symbols.

Beginning October 11th, all students who are dropped off by a parent on the front loop should enter the main entrance and walk down the main hallway to their classrooms. Should their classrooms be on the lower level, they will use the stairwell closer to the playground. This will help ease some congestion in our hallways where our bus riders are entering the building and traveling up the stairwell closest to the back parking lot. We thank you in advance for guiding your children, and we'll do the same.

The TFAF is a local charitable organization which provides temporary financial assistance to Tewksbury residents. The fund provides discreet support for expenses such as utility bills, groceries and medical expenses to help people through a particularly difficult period.
