Our Mission: “To share the Good News of Jesus Christ, teach children, and assist parents in training children to be witnessing Christians and productive citizens.”
Weekly Devotion
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the father through Him” (Colossians 3:17)
The first month of school is behind us. How’s it going so far? My prayer is that you have settled into a routine with the school day, homework, extra curricular activities, and family time. At the parsonage, there’s always some adjusting that happens at the beginning of the school year to get us back into that routine!
Part of this year’s continued focus on our “Core 4 Values” is “Work hard and work well,” which we’ve taken from the verse above. So, what does this look like? For each person, depending on their vocation, it does look different. (This is a whole family devotion, so I’ve got something for everyone in the house on this!)
For students, this means that your primary vocation right now is that of student. Your God-given calling is to learn about His creation. This means that school work is your top priority. I know that it seems hard at times, but your teachers are working hard to make sure you see as much of God’s wonder as you can see. Part of that means getting your homework done to the best of your ability. Using your time wisely, you have time during the day to complete school work in most cases, but it might mean you have some to do after school, too.
For parents, this means that it is your God-given calling to help your students through their school work. If you’re like me, it’s been decades since you’ve learned algebra or the names of countries and their capitals. Like me, you are probably not a professional educator. But, God has given you your kids to be their very first teacher. Our school’s mission is to come alongside and support and equip you for that task, but the teachers can’t replicate what God has built into your relationship with your kids. If I can relearn PEMDAS and how to outline a history lesson, I know you can, too!
For teachers, this means that you are to provide the best quality education you can for the students under your care. It’s hard with all the competition for time, including travel sports and the like, but the work you are doing is eternally important. Make the most out of it! God has given this time to you with our children as a gift.
I know school work is tough, and it can seem like a lot sometimes. However, in managing your time wisely and working hard, you are accomplishing what the Lord has given you to do. When you do that—without grumbling as the Israelites in the wilderness so often did—it is to His glory.
Let us pray: O God, You have created us for work. Adam was given the task of tending the Garden of Eden, and Eve was given the task of being his helpmeet. Help us to set our priorities straight by doing the work You have given us, rather than the self-chosen works that make us like the Pharisees in Jesus’ day. Strengthen us for the task at hand, that we might do all things to Your glory and not to ours. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

NWEA ASSESMENTS
From September 10-25th students in grades K-8 will be taking NWEA assessments.
NWEA is a set of tests called the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) that students in grades K-8 will be taking this fall and spring. Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade take MAP for primary grades tests in Reading and Math, while students in grades 2-8 take MAP tests in Reading, Language Arts, and Math. These tests determine your child's instructional level and measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the listed subject areas.
