Happy Fantastic Friday Tigers,
Happy Friday Tigers,
We've had a great, short week at Roosevelt. We are always working to be respectful, responsible and safe in all areas of school life. Demonstrating strong character skills is how we show our Tiger Pride! Please ask your child how they showed their Roosevelt Tiger Pride this week. In addition to your actions, we love being Tigeriffic on Tuesdays...wear Orange, Blue, anything Tiger inspired to show your pride.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the Main Office - 734-744-2775, between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.

Character Trait for November
This month’s mindset focus will be on responsibility. Please ask your child throughout the month what responsible choices they made, or what they have learned about responsibility at school.
From Mrs. Serazio-
Happy November! This month our students will be focusing on the Character Trait of Responsibility during their daily Social/Emotional Morning Meeting! Responsibility is an often-used word for kids and adults, but what does it really mean? At its core, being responsible means doing the things you are supposed to do and accepting the consequences of your actions, whether positive or negative. Teaching responsibility to children also means helping them learn how to make good decisions. Responsibility is an important lesson for children to learn early on and all the way into adulthood. But this skill doesn’t just develop overnight. Children need the practice that comes with doing responsibility activities in order to become more responsible people. There are many ways that we can show responsibility, such as practicing self-control when unpredictable things happen, taking accountability for our decisions, and committing to finishing what we started.
This month, I am asking families to share photos of your family/children showing examples of responsibility. It can be anything from sweeping the floor to taking care of a plant at home. Please share any photos with a quick description to me at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org. I will showcase these photos on our character trait bulletin board at school. Thank you in advance!
One of the focuses for our Social/Emotional (SEL) Curriculum is learning about our feelings. We learn that we all have feelings. Our feelings are shown on our faces! We can show our emotions by smiling when we are happy or frowning when we are sad. For this week, have your families make some feelings turkeys and bring one in for our SEL curriculum board and drop them off in my room. Here are some examples below. Have fun with this one!
The 20 Minute Challenge!
Are you participating in the 20 minute challenge? It’s never too late to start.
Mrs. B. Garbutt and Ms. Gordon continue to challenge you to dedicate just 20 minutes of your day to reading at home. This could be reading on your own, listening to someone else read, or taking turns reading with a family member or friend.
Why read for 20 minutes?
There are many academic and social benefits to reading daily.
This week we share benefit # 5.
Improved Test Scores: According to a study, conducted by Nagy and Herman, students who read 20 minutes a day score, on average, in the 90th percentile on standardized tests.
Let’s keep all of our Roosevelt Tiger students and families reading 20 minutes per day! Stay tuned for benefit #6 in a future Parent Roundup.
From Mrs. Serazio
Happy Friday Families!
We are zooming through October and focusing on our character trait of respect. I wanted to share our PBIS Behavior Matrix respect section so you can review it with your child.
Last week, I sent some family activities centering around respect. Here is a couple more fun activities you can do at home as a family to demonstrate the need for respect:
Ketchup squirt: For this activity, you’ll need a ketchup bottle and a plate. Ask your kids to squeeze some of it out onto the plate. Then, ask them to put it back into the bottle. After a few attempts, explain to them that just like the ketchup that is already on the plate, disrespectful words are impossible to take back.
Compliments: One way of showing someone how much you respect them is by giving them a compliment. Ask your child to give a sincere compliment to someone every day for a week. Have them keep track of who they gave the compliment to and the reaction they received. This will teach them that expressing their high regard for someone through a compliment can make that person feel better.
If you try these, please let me know how each activity was for your family at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org. Thanks!
PBIS
Thank you to all the families who returned the PBIS commitment sheet included with our pamphlet. Our staff and students are dedicated to being respectful, responsible, and safe as stated in our Positive Behavior Matrix. Students can earn “red tickets” for following the matrix expectations. Every Friday, teachers pull two red tickets, and the students can come to the lobby for a special prize!
Medications and Health Information - Please read!
If your child has a medical condition and/or requires medication at school, please download the forms your child needs for school, based on their health conditions (Life-Threatening Food and/or Insect Allergy, Allergy IHCP, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizure Disorder). New forms must be completed by you and your child’s physician each year (dated after the last day of school of the previous school year). Please ensure that the forms include both your signature and your child’s doctor’s signature. We cannot dispense any medication without these completed forms. Forms can be found on our school website under the parent tab as “Health Forms”.
Medications and forms can be brought to the school office anytime moving forward. Don't delay in sharing medical updates as you get updated information.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Serazio at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org.

Art with Ms. Salvia
This week in Art, 2nd-4th grade student artists finished their Fall Leaf Projects by gluing their leaves to the background painting. We talked about placing the leaves across the entire page to fill the space, and about turning the leaves in several directions to make it look like the leaves are blowing in the wind. After finishing gluing the leaves, we talked about drawing using basic shapes. Artists often draw basic shapes and combine them to draw more complex things like cars, buildings, people, or animals. We started by practicing drawing circles and spheres.
Kindergarten and 1st grade student artists also began talking about Shape! We started by drawing a big rectangle across the page and breaking it down into other shapes such as squares, circles, and triangles. We had fun using watercolor paint to fill it in with color.
Cub Crew student artists began a new project this week. We created texture on the page by painting with a roller brush! Next week, we will transform these into festive fall pumpkins.
See you next week in Art!

Hello Scientists and Families,
This week in Project Lead the Way we were diving deep into problem solving! Our students have been using the design process to build solutions to specific problems.
Kindergarteners have been learning that humans have an impact on the natural environment, they are working toward designing a game or toy made from recyclable materials to reduce our impact while meeting a want!
1st graders have been using our new knowledge of light and sound to design a device to help us be found when lost in the woods. This week we began to put together our ideas in a way that meets our goal.
2nd graders began their design portion of their home made cooler. They are using supplies commonly found around the house to build an impromptu cooler that will keep an ice pop frozen.
3rd graders are using compound machines to meet a unique need. They are designing and building these compound machines out of our Vex IQ kits.
4th graders finalized their Fictitious plants. They designed a built a model of a fictitious plant that was well adapted for a specific scenario.
Looking forward to another wonderful week!

With no school on election day, this week was a mix and match of fun, but educational activities for students. Young 5's, Kindergarteners, and first graders all listened to either "Iggy Peck Architect," "Dragon's Love Tacos," or the old classic "Where the Wild Things Are." Some even listened to more than one. When finished, students used Legos to build something from one of the stories they listened too. Second grade students did a review of Roosevelt rules and expectations, but did so using Jenga blocks. Finally, in third and fourth grade students learned how to add an image in our fun brain breaks in Curipod.
Below is a picture of Mrs. Halimi's second grade class "Rockin the Library." To "Rock the Library" all students at Roosevelt know they are to have quiet feet and quiet voices, follow directions, and be respectful. Mrs. Halimi's class in the picture are either talking quietly (0-1 voice), or watching Ryan and Craig. In the attached video, her class is demonstrating what behavior should look like in the Learning Lab. Great job to Mrs. Halimi's class.
Music with Ms. Grammatico
Happy November!
3rd graders learned a new song "A Pumpkin Ran Away." They caught onto the melody very quickly and then we played a game where we passed a ball in a line and the last person rolled the ball through their line's legs. We had a ton of fun!
K-2 graders learned a new song "Tideo" and we did a dance where the whole class walked in a circle and one person walked in the opposite direction. At a certain point in the song, the single person in the middle finds a partner and they spin in a circle together. The partner becomes the next person to walk alone.
See everyone next week!
