Students at Taos Day School learn programming through STEM instruction.
School Highlights
Many Farms High School
Ayden Davis, a guitar student at Many Farms High School, auditioned and was selected for the All-State Guitar Honor Festival of Performance. Only 40 students in the state of Arizona were selected for this honor, and he was the only student from the Navajo Nation represented.
As part of the Arizona Music Educators Association Convention in Mesa, Arizona, Ayden's guitar group performed seven pieces of music in various styles, including an Arizona musical premiere.
Chuck Hulihan, Guitar Program Director for Glendale Community College and Martha Masters, Assistant Professor at Arizona State University, served as clinician/conductors for the Honor Ensemble. Ryan Ayers, composer of Folds, also attended and was a clinician for the event.
Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School Wellness Initiative
The Student Wellness Committee has done an incredible job creating fun and engaging activities for students all year long! Kicking things off with a burst of energy, high school students and a staff member took on the Tough Mudder 5K in Hugo, Minnesota, showing their grit and determination. In the fall, excitement ramped up with a Punt, Pass, and Kick football competition for 3rd through 5th graders, with Varsity Football players stepping up to coach and cheer them on. The thrill continued with the ever-popular Zombie Run, where elementary students raced to keep their flags away from high school "zombies" in a spooky, laughter-filled chase.
As winter approached, the Feats of Strength challenge took center stage, encouraging elementary students to improve their strength and motor skills through a series of nine exercises, from push-ups and planks to jump rope and the dreaded Wall Sit. After three months of practice, students put their hard work to the test in a February competition, with high school athletes stepping in to help run the event. This initiative promotes fitness and provides valuable insights for PE instructors to refine the curriculum and track overall student wellness. Huge congratulations to all the students, staff, and volunteers who made these events such a success!
