Thompson Friday Forecast
December 13, 2024
From the Principal.... Matt Clark
Dear Thompson Middle School Families,
Next week is shaping up to be an important and exciting one at Thompson Middle School! As we approach the final week of the second quarter, it’s a great time to encourage your children to stay focused and finish strong. This is especially crucial for students taking high school-level courses, as their semester grades will be part of their official high school transcripts. Please take a moment this weekend to review assignments, check in on grades, and discuss any final assessments or projects with your child. Every effort now will pay off in building a solid academic foundation.
That said, we’re also planning to have some fun next week! We’re kicking off a building-wide Rock, Paper, Scissors contest, which I previewed in my weekly video. The week will conclude with an all-school assembly on Friday to celebrate the first half of the year and crown our Thompson Rock, Paper, Scissors champion. These activities are a great way to bring our school community together and add some extra excitement to the week.
So, enjoy the holiday season this weekend, but make sure your kids get plenty of rest because next week is going to be fun, exhausting, and exciting! Thank you for your continued support in helping our students thrive both academically and socially. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office. Let’s make next week a memorable one at Thompson Middle School! Roll Thunder!

Thank you for helping us ensure our school day runs smoothly and with little disruption!
Finding the Right Person at TMS
Please find our Staff Directory located on the right hand side of the Thompson Website.
So who do I contact for my concern???
While there are always some exceptions, the general rule of thumb is to email or call:Emotional issues - Counselors
Disciplinary issues - Student Services Coordinators (Deans)
School work issue - Teachers
- In general, if your child needs support, start with the teacher and then the team leader. If you still need help, move to the Assistant Principals (academics) or Student Support Coordinators (Deans) (behavioral).

Muscle Memory…
Muscle memory is very important for athletes. Muscle memory allows athletes to perform more efficiently and accurately without having to process their movement and skills. The more consistently athletes repeat any motion, the more reliable muscle memory becomes over time. For example, a baseball player likely needs thousands of swings to ingrain technique and skill into muscle memory developing automaticity. In turn, through repeated practice in mathematics, muscle memory also supports mathematical calculations. With constant practice, facts become so ingrained in our minds that answers are recalled almost instantly without needing to process and think through them, automaticity. Let’s unlock the full potential of mathletes by applying the same principles of muscle memory that propel athletes to success.
HOMEWORK = PRACTICE = KNOWLEDGE = SUCCESS
Please see the grade level below to find out what we’ve learned in math class this week!
More information on Compass Academy
The traditional, comprehensive high school model isn’t the best fit for everyone. That’s why District 303 offers students another option: Compass Academy, a high school of choice with a flexible schedule that provides students with a small learning environment where they receive a personalized educational experience that challenges them and capitalizes on their interests and passions. With an intentional focus on cultivating positive relationships and building connections to the community and potential careers, the Compass Academy approach combines academic rigor, social-emotional learning, and experiential opportunities while fostering a culture of trust, curiosity, and pathway exploration. Students at Compass engage in projects in a competency-based model, removing the traditional constraints of "seat time" and empowering student-driven learning inside and outside the classroom. This approach allows students to earn credit toward graduation requirements in ways other than traditional coursework, incorporates real-world knowledge and challenges, and prepares students for any post-secondary path they choose with options to earn both early college credit and industry credentials.
If you are interested in learning more about Compass Academy, complete the Interested Student Form and someone from Compass will follow up with you soon to schedule a tour and answer any questions you might have. Space is limited, but there are still spots available for the 2025-26 school year, so if you are “Compass curious”, be sure to reach out soon!
