Wasco Weekly
August 16, 2024
Welcome Wasco Families to our new school year!
If you are new to Wasco, either as a move in or a Kindergarten family, this parent newsletter is delivered every Friday to your email address. It contains updates about school progress and news to know about our events, both at Wasco and within the district. Our goal is to keep you informed of school happenings so that you are an informed partner in your child's education. Your input is important. I speak with many of our families during arrival/dismissal, events, or in personal phone calls. I encourage you to connect with me when you have questions or ideas that will impact our school community. At Wasco, students, staff, and parents are part of our "Wolf Pack". Our expectation is that we work together to create a safe, kind community who works hard and does the right thing- these are our Wasco Expectations!
I hope you plan to attend our upcoming back to school party hosted by our PTO on August 23rd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Wasco. We look forward to getting to know you and deepening our relationship, as it's an important catalyst for your child’s learning.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Stephanie Brennan

Wasco Expectations and CHAMPS
We want to introduce you to our district approach to school-wide behavior management. The approach is called CHAMPS: A Proactive, Positive, and Instructional Approach to Behavior Management. This approach emphasizes setting clear expectations and teaching students how to behave appropriately in a variety of settings. The goal is to support a positive learning environment. We will begin the year teaching and reviewing with students our Wasco Expectations: Be Safe, Be Kind, Work Hard, and Do The Right Thing.
We will support students by ensuring we teach students how to behave responsibly throughout their school day. CHAMPS provides us with a common way for all students to learn and know building wide expectations. CHAMPS stands for Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation, and Success. When students follow the CHAMPS expectations, it leads to Success. We will help students be successful by teaching them when and what voice level they can use, how they can get help when they need it, what movement is appropriate for each setting, and what the goals are for participation. We believe that students need to understand what the expectations are before we can expect them to follow them.
Above is a visual that shows our Wasco Expectations. We are excited to start this school year off with structures in place that will support success and clear expectations for all. We look forward to partnering with you throughout this school year as we teach, positively reinforce, and reteach the behavioral expectations. In the following weeks, we will share the expectations for each setting across the building: bus, before school, hallway, bathroom, recess/playground, lunchroom, bus line, and during an assembly.

A Message From The PTO:
Attention Parents - Please Read
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Arrival
Our front door closes at 9:05am so we can all start our day together with morning routines. If you are dropping off your student, please arrive between 8:50am-9:00am When students are late they feel out of place and they are missing valuable connections with their whole school community.
Arrival and Dismissal
When using the drop off lane, please drive all the way forward so that we can load/unload as many cars as possible. Please stay in your car. If you wish to get out and load your child, you are welcome to park in the lot. By following this procedure, we can expedite everyone’s waiting times in the car lane.A Message From Band
