Blue Jacket Buzz
Aynor Elementary School Newsletter
A note from the Principal:
Dear Parents,
Students have had a fun and exciting experience with the Boosterthon Fundraiser. Students spray painted hair, pied the coach, and cheered on a fast & furious tricycle race. A BIG thank you to AES PTO for organizing this event. We appreciate all the support we have received from our parents and community members.
Please be reassured that the safety of our students is our top priority. Our school has safety procedures in place in the event of any emergency. Your child will participate in various safety drills this year which include: fire, tornado, earthquake and intruder. Our faculty and staff are trained in the “I Love You Guys Foundation” safety protocols. We are always vigilant and focused on maintaining the safety of our students each day. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Next week our Blue Jacket life skill is “Being Respectful”. Blue Jackets being respectful means listening to your teachers, being kind to our friends, and following all school procedures. Being respectful creates an environment that makes AES the BEST!!
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Kinlaw
Principal
Safety Updates:
OPENGATE Security at Horry County Schools
With the start of the 2024-2025 school year, Horry County Schools will use OPENGATE weapon detection scanners to screen all students and guests including all elementary schools.
Please watch the video to learn more:
Our #1 goal is to ensure that Aynor Elementary is a SAFE environment for our Blue Jackets. To do this, we hold a variety of safety drills throughout the year. Safety drills enhance school safety by allowing students and staff to understand proper emergency procedures outside of a crisis situation.
What drills will our Blue Jackets participate in throughout the school year?
Fire Drill: Students and staff practice exiting the building in case of a fire.
Tornado Drill: Students and staff take safety position lining up along an interior wall or the safest area, in case of a tornado.
Earthquake Drill: Students and staff DROP, COVER and HOLD ON, getting under a table or desk if one is near, in case of an earthquake.
Intruder Drill: Our school has adopted the “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol.
Metal Detectors: Staff will use a metal detector to check students and their materials/backpacks as they enter the building.

3-5
3rd , 4th and 5th grade students have been busy learning about their feelings and emotions. They played an awesome game of musical feelings. Students walk around cards that contain a specific feeling or emotion and shared their experiences. Students learned that their feelings and emotions drives their actions towards others.
Jr. Beta Club- Can tabs for a Cause
Can tabs will be collected by the AES Jr. Beta Club. Donations will benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston, SC.
Backpack Buddies:
Backpack Buddies believes that students who can go to school prepared will be more successful. Children should have the opportunity to grow, learn and be a child for as long as they can while receiving basic needs. If your family would benefit from the Backpack Buddies program, please email Mrs. Hemingway at ehemingway002@horrycountyschools.net for a form to fill out and return.
