The Weekly Highlander
Volume #19
A Message from the Principal
Dear Highlander Families:
It is hard to believe we are already one month into 2025. Information about registration for the 2025-2026 school year is coming up next week for your student. A detailed schedule and additional information on the process can be found in this newsletter.
As we head into February, there are many activities for our students during the entire month including a school dance, choir performances, basketball games, and the 7th Grade Core Knight at the Museum event. Please see the calendar at the bottom of the newsletter for details about the dates and times of each activity.
I would like to highlight that the Tustin Public Schools Foundation (TPSF) is hosting its first annual Pickleball tournament on February 1st. Many school staff will be playing, including me (I am still a beginner so please be kind 🙂), to support this organization that does so much for our schools. I am excited about a fun day of friendly competition and am hoping you will join me by attending the event. Spectator tickets are now on sale, there is additional information in the newsletter on how to purchase and attend.
Please stay connected to Hewes by checking our website and following us on Instagram @heweshighlanders for the latest information and news.

FACULTY FRIDAY
Ms.Florio and Ms.Cameron THANK YOU you for bringing such positivity, energy, and focus to learning and supporting our students and staff. Your impact on our school community is seen through the PBIS program and is positively impacting our school culture, making a difference in the success of our students and families. Hewes is lucky to have you both!
Highlander for the Day!
The Hewes staff is recognizing HIGHLANDERS “H” FOR A DAY AWARD! Highlander for a Day is a program at Hewes Middle School that celebrates students for incredible moments in the areas of Respect, Responsibility, and Results.
THANK YOU to our LA Fire Fighters
Last week our staff and students took time to write thank you letters to our firefighters. Many of these firefighters and their teams have not returned yet to their families and we can only hope that with the change in weather, we will get some much needed rain. There were three huge envelopes being sent to three different stations and we know they will be appreciated. I read many of the notes and we have thoughtful and amazing students! THANK YOU, Ms.Cameron and Ms.Florio, our PBIS teacher leads for organizing this effort!
Registration for the 2025-2026 School Year
Next week our counselors will begin working on registration for the 2025-2026 school year with our current 6th and 7th grade students. Presentations and information will be shared in PE next week with course selection forms going home with 6th grade students on Monday and 7th grade students on Tuesday. The information presented to students will be emailed home to parents so that you can work with your student to request classes for your student for the 2025-2026 school year. All forms are due to your child's current core teacher on Monday, February 3rd.
