March is Read Across America Month
Starts March 3rd
A message from Mr. Jones and Mrs. DeGouff
Dear Pieter B. Families,
As we step into the vibrant and promising month of March, we are thrilled to share the latest happenings and important updates from our beloved school community. This month promises to be filled with exciting events, educational opportunities, and celebrations. Here's a glimpse of what you can look forward to:
1. Spring into Learning:
March marks the arrival of spring, and with it comes a renewed focus on learning and growth. Our dedicated teachers have prepared engaging lessons and activities that will spark curiosity and inspire our students to embrace the joy of learning.
2. Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for March 24 & March 25 (Early Dismissal). Classroom teachers will reach out to parents if a conference is needed. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss your child's progress, address any concerns, and collaborate with teachers to ensure a successful academic journey. If you still would to schedule a conference contact your student's classroom teacher.
3. Read Across America Day:
On March 3rd, we will celebrate Read Across America Day, a nationwide initiative that promotes the love of reading among children and adults alike. Join us in fostering a culture of literacy by encouraging your child to explore new books and embark on exciting literary adventures.
4. Women's History Month:
March is dedicated to honoring the contributions of women throughout history. Our classrooms will feature activities that highlight the achievements of remarkable women, fostering a sense of empowerment and inspiration among our students.
5. Springtime Celebrations:
Embrace the spirit of spring with classroom activities and projects that celebrate the changing seasons. From budding artists creating colorful masterpieces to scientific explorations of nature's rebirth, our students will be immersed in hands-on experiences that capture the essence of spring.
6. Important Reminders:
Don't forget to check our school calendar for important dates, including early release days and school-wide events.
Stay connected with your child's teacher through regular communication channels, and feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
As the weather warms up, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor activities during recess and physical education classes.
We look forward to a month filled with growth, learning, and memorable moments. Thank you for your continued support and collaboration in creating a positive and enriching educational environment for our students.
Warm regards,
Mr. Hakim Jones, Principal
Mrs. Victoria DeGouff, Assistant Principal

Pieter B information regarding Outdoor recess
The winter weather is coming to a close! Just a few reminders:
1. Students go outside for recess when the real feel temperature is 15 degrees and above.
2. We use accu-weather to determine the real feel temperature.
3. If the temperature is close to 15 degrees, please send your students to student with their coat, hat and gloves ( just in case the students are able to go outside)
4. All students should wear a jacket during the winter season (especially on chilly days). Stay warm!
LOST AND FOUND
We have a lost and found table in the front lobby waiting area.
There are numerous water bottles, lunch boxes, clothing etc...
Please check for any lost items, as we will be cleaning it out later this month.
Health-Related Updates
In an effort to control the spread of illness we ask for your cooperation with the following guidelines.
Do not send your child to school….
If he/she has a temperature of 100 or higher. Please do not send your child to school until he/she is fever-free (under 100) for 24 hours without Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
If he/she has been vomiting or had diarrhea during the night or early morning hours. They should stay home until they have been free of the episodes for 24 hours.
If your child is coughing excessively and/or has a very runny nose. A constant cough is very uncomfortable for your child and it is also disruptive to the class.
If they have a severe rash that has not been seen by a physician. If your child has an open wound, please cover it with a bandage; if it does not appear to be healing, please consult your physician.
If your physician suspects strep throat or other infections do not send your child to school until the results are known. If the result is positive he/she should have at least 24 hours of antibiotics before returning to school.
If you suspect your child has pink eye (conjunctivitis), please take them to your physician. If it is a confirmed case, keep them home until they have been treated for 24 hours.
If your child has Head Lice- unless they have been treated according to the nurse or doctor’s instruction and no longer have live lice or nits (eggs).
🌨️ Weather-Related Updates 🌨️
We would like to remind families about the protocols that have been established for school closings, delays, and early dismissals, as well as the cancellation of extra-curricular activities.
In the event that weather impacts the school day, we use several information vehicles to communicate with parents and community members. All emergency closure information can be found on our website here.
