Statham Elementary Nurse Newsletter
Welcome Back to a New School Year!
Together, we can provide quality care to your child should he/she get sick, need to be assessed by Nurse Nell/clinic worker, has a previously diagnosed medical condition, or need daily medications.
- Please complete the electronic Student Health Form.
- All medications (over the counter, cough drops, prescribe) must be brought in by the parents/ guardian. A new standard is that Barrow County will now require a doctor’s note for over the counter medications. Students are prohibited from having any medications in their possession. The medication must be in the original container/bag. No baggies/envelopes from home. A BCSS Medication Authorization form MUST be completed and signed before any medication can be administered to a student.
We must have a completed Care/Action Plan on students with diagnosed medical conditions including but not limited to; Asthma, Allergies (severe, might need epipen or Benadryl – not pollen or seasonal), Heart conditions, Seizures, Diabetes. These are updated each year.
For Students with Asthma - Nebulizer treatments will only be administered in a severe emergency. We strongly urge you to speak with your child(s) physician and obtain an emergency inhaler with an Aero-Chamber. Inhalers/chambers must be kept in the clinic unless your physician has signed the self-carry portion on the Asthma action plan.
Following an illness, students should be fever free for 72 hours (without fever reducing medications) prior to returning to school. Student should also be free of symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, excessive coughing, etc. for 72 hours or symptoms have significantly improved.
When we return to school face to face, it will be somewhat different, but we will get through these different times together. As the Statham Elementary Nurse, I am here to help and support you and your family in any way possible. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have. 770-725-7112 or nell.clemons@barrow.k12.ga.us
Sincerely,
Nurse Nell
