10th Grade Counseling Lesson - "Finding Value"
On May 13th, school counselors visited 10th-grade English classes for the "Finding Value" lesson. Students used californiacolleges.edu to complete a survey to help determine what qualities in a career they would find most important. The main idea is that when individuals match their careers with their work values, this will lead to higher job satisfaction. After the survey, students were allowed to explore careers that matched their work values. From there, they could explore post-high school education options needed to move into that career/field. School counselors encourage all students to keep their research in mind when selecting next year's classes, identifying dual enrollment courses, identifying extra-curricular activities, etc.
11th Grade Counseling Lesson - "Time to Make a Plan"
Due to AP and state testing this month, counselors were unable to find the appropriate time to visit classrooms this semester for the spring counseling lesson. Fortunately, our English teachers this year and next are assisting students with college and career preparation with resume and cover letter development and college essays. In addition, the lesson is available on our website along with our senior timeline which is designed to help students meet important senior year deadlines. Counselors will be visiting senior English classes early next Fall to further assist students in their post-secondary planning.
