HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope that your family had a relaxing and enjoyable winter break. It’s wonderful to have our students and staff back on campus, ready for another exciting semester of growth and learning.
As we embark on the new year, we look forward to continuing to support your child’s academic, social, and emotional development. This semester is filled with opportunities for students to shine in the classroom and beyond, and we can’t wait to see all the progress they will make.
We also want to take this opportunity to remind you about the importance of keeping open communication between school and home. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at (210) 228-3340.
We’re excited for all that the rest of the school year holds and are thrilled to continue partnering with you to ensure the best possible experience for your child.
2nd Grade Math Tips
In second grade, students learn to add and subtract numbers by breaking them into parts and combining them to make a whole. A useful method for this is a two-part chart, also known as a "part-part-whole" chart.
Here’s how it works:
- The chart is divided into two sections: "Part 1" and "Part 2," with the total or "Whole" at the bottom.
- Students fill in the parts (the numbers they are adding or subtracting) in the two sections.
- The total (sum) is written at the bottom, showing how the two parts combine to make the whole number.
This visual helps students understand how numbers are combined to form a total. It also supports their number sense and addition skills. Watch the video below to hear from teachers on how it is explained to students in the classroom and practice the concept with your child at home.
FREE FAMILY NIGHTS AT THE DOSEUM
Monday Nights are Filled with Fun STEM Activities
"The museum is safe place for children to get inspired and tap into their creativity and curiosity to learn and play with purpose. The majority of the exhibits at The DoSeum boast a science, technology, and mathematics (STEM) focus, which integrate with literacy and creative arts concepts."
If your family attends a FREE Family Night, send us pictures of your learning adventures!
