Backpack Give Away and School Supplies
Castro Elementary traditionally has given students a backpack with school supplies before school starts. Unfortunately this year, the backpacks will arrive after school begins. Once the school gets a date for the arrival of the backpacks, we will set up an event for students to pick up their backpacks and supplies. These school supplies are for students to use at home.
Castro students do not need to provide any school supplies at the beginning of school for their classroom. At our school, we make sure to purchase enough school supplies so every classroom has enough for each student. If you would like to purchase additional supplies for your student’s classroom, teachers will talk about it during Back to School night.
School Meals
Breakfast and lunch are offered daily at school and are FREE for all students as part of California’s Universal meal program. MVWSD provides vegetarian options as well. Students are also able to bring their own lunch from home.
Please continue to apply at EzSchool Meals to help MVWSD receive additional funding to support students who are in need, and it may help your family.
Construction update
Solar Panels
Solar panels across the district will save MVWSD more than $500,000 a year and provide much-needed shade for students. The Solar Panels at Castro have been constructed on the playground blacktop between Castro and Mistrall schools. The area around and under the solar panels is fenced off and the teachers and recess supervisors will be making sure students are safe and playing away from the fenced area. The fencing will be removed once the project is completed.
Fencing
The fencing around Mistral and Castro elementaries, as well as around the Castro field is almost completed. This is an important security measure for our campus. The fence should be completed by the end of the month.
Mistral Construction
The Mistral Office will be completed by the beginning of school. The Mistral parking lot will be closed, however, due to the Solar Panel project. Since there will not be parking at Mistral, street parking and traffic will be affected. Please be careful when walking from the Mistral side of campus to the Castro side.
The Dolphin Way
One important focus for Castro elementary is socio-emotional learning. It is part of our plan to help students feel confident and welcome as they all return to in person learning. We will be teaching students “The Dolphin Way” core values of:
“Be safe. Be Responsible. Be Respectful. Be Perseverant.”
The students will also learn how they are expected to behave in different areas around campus and how they will be recognized for meeting expectations and showing growth. These activities will help establish a learning environment that is safe, fair, and predictable. Be on the lookout for more information.
Additional Back to School information is on the MVWSD website.
