PTO Buzz 🐝
Monday, June 10th is our final big event of the year - FIELD DAY! Please read the following if you plan to attend and/or help. Last year we had an OVERWHELMING response from parents interested in volunteering for Field Day. Unfortunately we have a limit on the number of volunteer shifts for the event and because of this limit we are not able to accommodate every volunteer request. So, in an effort to make the process as fair as possible, the Field Day Volunteer sign-up will be released by direct email to all parents on Monday morning. Please read through ALL of the following guidelines for volunteering for Field Day before signing-up:
Field Day this year will be held on Monday, June 10th. Shifts begin at 8:45 am.
If you are a parent of a Kindergartener or Junior Kindergartener please be sure to check with your child's classroom teacher to see if they need help, before signing up here. K and JK students are lead in small groups by a parent chaperone during field day, so several volunteers are needed for each classroom. Each K and JK teacher will send out their own volunteer sign-up, so please check your email for those.
Field Day volunteer sign-up is first come, first serve. The sign-up fills up very quickly, so if you want to secure a spot, you should sign-up ASAP.
No special requests will be honored. Please do not contact PTO members, teachers or staff asking to be placed in a certain spot, or with a friend. We will not accommodate these requests. If the list is full we cannot add extra spots.
ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE A BACKGROUND CHECK THROUGH BAS BEFORE COMING TO VOLUNTEER. BAS provides background checks free of charge, and they can be completed online in 2 minutes through the link below: http://www.applitrack.com/brightonk12/StartForm.aspx?id=3993825
This form must be submitted no later than May 27th in order to participate in Field Day. Anyone who shows up to volunteer on Field Day without a completed BAS background check will be turned away.
Field Day volunteers are assigned to specific locations throughout the event to ensure safety, and they are expected to stay in their assigned position and perform their assigned duties. Volunteers whom are found to have abandoned their assigned duties may be asked to leave. Please remember that when you sign-up to volunteer for a school event like this, that you are coming to help, and that we are relying on that help in order for the event run safely.
If you have any questions about volunteering for Field Day you may email them to HornungPTO@gmail.com.
Families and Businesses wishing to sponsor our “Take Home Folders” for next year may reach out to Bob Lundwall at lundwallbob@gmail.com or 586-405-1144. Deadline of June 7th.
Our next PTO meeting is June 7th at 9:00am. Please check-in with the front office.
June 11th will be the 4th Grade Celebration. Details going home with your 4th grader.

Inaugural Pack Parade! 🐾
The BAS Pack of Dogs are excited to announce our inaugural Pack Parade! We will be hosting a 1 mile walk that will start at the Mill Pond and end at BHS with food trucks, yard games, and raffle baskets. Participants in the walk can use the link and select “become a fundraiser” to sign up and create a fundraising team/page that can be shared on your social media. This way you can tell your family and friends about the amazing pups you’re pledging to walk for and they can help contribute to your page as well. There will be prizes for the top fundraising teams from each Brighton School! We hope to see everyone there!
Any questions or Pack Parade sponsorship inquiries please reach out to Kaitlyn Lipinski or Rachaelle Baxter.

BAS Mental Health and Wellness
As a district we are increasing our efforts to support the Mental Health and Wellness of our students, families and the community by focusing on Relationships, Student Wellness, and Increasing a Mindset for Learning and Growth. Each week we will share a Tip/Resource.
Additional resources and information can be found on our BAS Wellness & Mental Health website or download the new App by typing in Brighton Area Schools on the itunes store or google play. This app will allow students, parents, staff and community members access to resources and support in the areas of Mental Health & Wellness. In addition, you can receive notifications on what is happening throughout BAS and be updated on future events and information.
Attention Livingston County Parents!
In an effort to proactively support students' overall well-being, we're partnering with ParentGuidance.org to provide a monthly virtual Mental Health Series developed by licensed therapists.
This series will be virtual, interactive, and is designed to help parents and caregivers support students. Starting in November, you can join these monthly sessions both on-site at your district or online for remote viewing. Attendance and interactions are kept completely anonymous from other viewers.
Friendly Reminder - Therapy Dog
We wanted to share a friendly reminder to our families about pets on school grounds. Because our school has a therapy dog, we ask that non-service animals be kept at home. This is for the safety of our therapy dog, Suzie. When Suzie is at school she is trained to do a job. When other dogs are on the property during school hours it is distracting for her and/or could put her in potential danger.
Thank you for understanding.
Important Reminder!
Reporting Your Student's Absence in Parent Connect
There is a helpful feature in Parent Connect that allows you to enter your student’s absence. Simply log into parent connect and click on the link Report Absence. The Report Absence link will open a screen for you to complete. If you have more than one student check the name of the student for whom an absence is being submitted. Add the applicable dates. If you check the All Day flag attendance will be submitted for the am and pm periods. If you do not check the All Day flag times must be entered and attendance will be submitted for whichever periods meet during the time range (based on period schedule). If you use Parent Connect to report your child's absence you do not need to call the attendance line.
