A Message From Mr. Johnson:
Happy Friday Sandhill Families!
We’ve wrapped up a fantastic Homecoming Week! The dress up days were a lot of fun, and Friday was especially exciting as we had visits from high schoolers, including some former Sandhill students, which was wonderful to see.
On Thursday, we had three buses come to Sandhill for a couple of hours to teach Bus Expectations and talk about Bus Safety and Evacuations with our students. A big thank you to Ms. Karen Johnson, our Transportation Director, and our bus drivers, Mr. Dave, Mr. Dan, and Mr. Randy, for making this happen!
As a reminder, October is Safety Awareness Month, and we will have some upcoming safety drills. More information will be shared below. Please also take time to review Speak Up Speak Out procedures with your children, as we will be doing this at school as well. Here are some helpful resources:
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out! Go Vikings!

School Pictures/Picture Make Up Day:
If your child got their picture taken on August 29th at Back to School Conferences you can order pictures by following this link. The code for your child should be on the envelope with their proof picture.
If your child did not get the chance to take their photo, or it didn't turn out quite how you expected it to, our picture retake day is October 8, 2024.
The Crane Cart Returns
This week, Sandhill's Crane Cart came around for students to shop at. The Crane Cart is part of our Schoolwide PBIS system to recognize positive behaviors throughout the school. Students earn Crane Cash for following the expectations of being Safe, Responsible and Respectful. They can then spend their Crane Cash to buy items or experiences from the Crane Cart.
A big thank you to Sandhill's Working for Kids for providing funds to help stock the Crane Cart throughout the year! As always, we'd love to hear from families should you have any feedback or questions about our PBIS system or the Crane Cart.

Good evening, Sandhill Families & Friends!
We hope everyone enjoyed the weekend! Our October calendar is filling up, so please take a look at what we have going on and mark your calendars. We have some really fun events planned as well as some great volunteer opportunities!
UPCOMING EVENTS!
SANDHILL READ-A-THON - Starting October 7!
Working for Kids is again sponsoring a Read-a-Thon leading up to the fall Scholastic Book Fair. The 6th Annual Read-a-Thon starts in two weeks and will run from October 7-18. More information about the Read-a-thon as well a Reading Log and Pledge Sheet will come home in red folders by Friday, October 4.
We want to make sure every student Has an opportunity to reach their reading goals, and so we are asking for volunteers (parents, grandparents, community members) to come in during morning recess for grades K-2 to read to our younger students. Students LOVE having guests come and read to them, and I'm pretty sure our guest readers enjoy it, as well!
Sign up to read to our younger readers during recess!
Paint Night - Tuesday, October 8!
Our first fun fall event is just around the corner! Mark your calendars and join us on Tuesday, 10/8 for a Paint Night! There are 28 spots available, and the cost is $30/pair. Creative Canvases with Sara provides the supplies and helps students create a fun piece of art. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Please see the sign up for more information.
NATIONAL BIKE & WALK TO SCHOOL DAY - 10/9
October 9th is National Walk & Bike to School Day. We want to make it safe and easy for students to get to school! Walking and biking to school provides practical experience with regards to road safety and encourages a healthy lifestyle.
FALL FESTIVAL - 10/18
Mark your calendar for our annual Fall Festival on Friday, October 18 from 5pm-7pm. Kids can win prizes playing carnival games, create fall art, get photos taken, race in an inflatable obstacle course, and enjoy the Kona ice truck. We'll also be offering pizza (for purchase) and snacks.
This is one of our biggest events of the year, and so please consider volunteering to help! We need donations of healthy snacks and sweet treats for our concession area, plus volunteers to run carnival games and crafts stations at the event. Grandparents and responsible middle and high school students are welcome to volunteer, too! Thank you for your help in making the Sandhill Fall Festival a success again this year!
