Superintendent's Message
Superintendent’s Message:
Greetings Lakeland Families,
The 2023-24 school year has flown by and we have much to celebrate! Our students were very successful in their learning endeavors this year. We had numerous students who were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments. As the school year draws to a close, we have some information to share that we hope will be helpful to all of you.
Please remember to register your child(ren) for school before you leave for the summer. We do not have registration dates in August as we have had in the past. Our administrators will work on class lists in June before they leave for the summer. If your child is not registered, they will be unable to put him/her on a class list or schedule our secondary students for the classes they requested.
Lynn Paslay and I met with the Pastors at Athol Baptist Church recently to do another podcast. The link to their page where you can find the lastest installment can be found here.
I am so grateful for the honor to work alongside our amazing parents and staff. Thank you for all that you did to support our school district and more specifically, your students this year. Education is a team effort. Thank you for being on our team!
Have a wonderful summer!
Lisa Arnold

BASE Update
Important update concerning Summer BASE
Although we had plenty of staffing for BASE this summer, our enrollment numbers were extremely low. The District has had to make the difficult decision to cancel Summer BASE due to the low enrollment. We wanted to let families know as soon as possible so you can make other arrangements.
We are extremely disappointed that we are not able to run Summer BASE, but look forward to seeing your students in the fall. School-year BASE registration will open on August 1st.

Many of Garwood Elementary School's 5th grade students recently graduated from D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). This 10 week opt-in program was given by Deputy Brett Clauson, Garwood's Safety Resource Officer and focuses on making good decisions. Deputy Clauson is one of the only people in the area certified to teach D.A.R.E.. Every student who signed up for the program graduated! This is the first time the program has been run at Garwood Elementary School. Congratulations to all of the graduates and Deputy Clauson!
The NISTAR (North Idaho Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) awards were held last night in Coeur d Alene. Each year 2 students from each Region 1 high school are chosen to receive this award. The students are selected based on their academic success and involvement in school and community activities. In addition, every NISTAR recipient selected an educator who he or she feels has made the most outstanding contribution to the student’s scholastic development.
NISTAR was started in 1988 by Mr. Chuck Kinsey who at the time was the Principal of Lakeland High School and later became the Superintendent of Lakeland Schools. NISTAR is an annual Idaho Region 1 Principal's Association celebration.
This year's recipients from the Lakeland School District were Timberlake High School (THS) student Kylee Sorenson who chose THS Teacher Mr. Chris Jarstad and THS student Zachary Paslay who chose THS Principal Mr. Ryne Eberlin, Lakeland High School (LHS) student Ethan Abbott who chose LHS Teacher Ms. Shannon Hall and LHS student Sarah Smith chose LHS Teacher Mr. Nick Haynes.
