Deaf Awareness Month
September is recognized as Deaf Awareness Month, which aims to raise awareness and promote better communication practices to support the needs of people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Did you know that we have students here at Huntley who use a variety of communication modes to access spoken messages due to their hearing loss? Some use behind-the-ear hearing aids, others use cochlear implants, some use sign language, and others wear a bone conduction hearing aid. Staff who specialize in working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing are on-site to support these students, their teachers, and peers. Huntley is a welcoming place for all of our students to grow and thrive. To learn more about how Wisconsin schools support our deaf or hard of hearing students, visit https://dpi.wi.gov/sped/program/deaf-hard-of-hearing
