Davis Bilingual Magnet
August Newsletter
Dear Davis Families,
I am thrilled to share that our first week back to school went smoothly! It was wonderful to see our hallways filled with excitement and energy as students and staff settled into the new school year.
This week, our dedicated teachers have been focusing on building strong relationships with students, establishing effective routines, and reinforcing the values of In Lak'ech. As a school, we believe in the importance of creating a positive and supportive environment where every student feels valued and respected.
One of the highlights of this week was our “In-School Field Trip.” During this event, students visited various stations around the campus, including the playground, cafeteria, and hallways. At each station, they learned about behavior expectations and saw firsthand what In Lak'ech looks like in action across our school. This hands-on experience was a wonderful way to reinforce our school's core values in a practical and engaging manner.
Our Open House is scheduled for August 20th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This event will provide a deeper dive into our curriculum, classroom routines, procedures, and expectations for the year. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with our teachers and gain a better understanding of how we plan to support your child’s learning journey. From 5:00 PM to 6:15 PM, you’ll have the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom and explore some of the tables located in the hallway. If you have more than one child, you’ll have just over an hour to visit each classroom. Beginning at 6:15 PM, I will meet all families in the cafeteria for our Back to School/Title 1 presentation.
Gentle Reminders:
Water Bottles: Please remember to send your child with a water bottle each day, labeled with their name. Staying hydrated is important.
Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for your child's success. Please ensure that your child arrives on time and is ready to learn every day. If your child is going to be absent, please inform the school office as early as possible.
Punctuality: Our tardy bell rings at 8:35 AM each morning. Please make sure your child arrives before this time to ensure they have a smooth start to their day.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up: For the safety of all our students, please follow the designated drop-off and pick-up procedures. Be mindful of traffic patterns and avoid parking in restricted areas.
Healthy Snacks: We encourage families to send healthy snacks with their children. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are great choices to keep your child energized throughout the day.
As we embark on the 2024-2025 school year, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as your principal once again. I am committed to ensuring that Davis Bilingual remains an incredible community for all of our students and families. Your ideas and suggestions are always welcome, and I encourage you to reach out with any thoughts on how we can continue to grow and thrive together. Thank you for your continued support, and here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Warm regards,
Marisela Campillo
Principal
Message from our New School Counselor
Hello Families,
I’m Ms. Yolanda Fernandez-Carr, and I am honored to be your new school counselor. I bring over 25 years of experience in education to the Davis Bilingual Magnet community. My career has taken me from teaching to counseling, and most recently, administration. It has been an amazing journey, helping students succeed and reach their goals.
I was born and raised in Sonora, Mexico, and I graduated from the University of Arizona—I'm a lifelong WILDCAT! Additionally, I am a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in various countries. But, my favorite role of all is being "Nana 1."
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, gardening, and traveling. I look forward to working together for a GREAT year. Thank you for the privilege of working with you in the Davis Bilingual school community. I am here to serve you.

Tax Credit
Now through April 15th, 2025, you can take advantage of the Arizona Public School Tax Credit to pay the income tax you owe directly to Davis Bilingual Magnet. In the state of Arizona, you get your tax credit contribution back subject to the limits of your tax liability.
What should I mark when I make my donation online?
We are especially grateful for donations marked “Undesignated,” as that allows us to put your donation towards a specialist position on our campus (P.E., Garden, Art, etc). Thank you for supporting us as we raise funds to keep these important positions.
What if I already made a payment for Extended Day?
Many of you made a payment for Extended Day. Kindly note that you may be able to take advantage of the federal Child and Dependent Care Credit, as Extended Day supports parents who pay for childcare so that they may work outside of the home. Please consult your tax professional for more details. This may allow you to make an additional contribution to Davis (in addition to Extended Day) and claim the Arizona tax credit, for up to $400, per the information above.
