Mrs. Marsha Livingston
Her favorite thing about Dryden is the people. "There are wonderful people here," she says, "who really care about you and want the best for you." Mrs. Livingston originally chose Dryden because her children were students here, which made life much easier. She also likes the small town feel.
Mrs. Livingston attended Central Michigan University, Oakland Community College, and Mott Community College. She earned two Associates Degrees along with extra college credits. Once her children got involved with activities and school, she focused my attention on them. One piece of advice Mrs. Livingston would give to students is "Don't be in a hurry to grow up and don't let others make choices for you."

Dryden Basketball Alumni Game
The annual Dryden Basketball Alumni game will be held at Dryden High School on Saturday, February 3rd . “The response has been tremendous!” said varsity coach John DelCampo. “The players’ spots filled up quickly, and we have gotten a great response from alumni that want to attend the game, especially considering it might be the last one.”
Adding to the evening is the junior high players against the junior high parents game. The evening is about Dryden Basketball past, present and future. “It is really an amazing evening. The future of Dryden Basketball plays in the junior high game. The current players are referees or other jobs for the evening,” said DelCampo. “Then we get to see the past with the alumni.”
The junior high game begins at 6:00 with the alumni game following approximately 7:15. Doors open at 5:30. Cost is $5 with all proceeds going to the Dryden Basketball program. This is its biggest fundraiser.
There is a draft of the alumni with former players Dave Reynolds and Marcus Leija selecting for their teams. Team Leija consists of Jack Kaplan (2021), Ronny Hudson (2020), Craig Kreger (1996), Jaylen Rodriguez (2019), Chris Kent (2002), Bailey Knuth (2016), Hunter Gall (2018), Marcus Leija (2002), Coulter Waite (2020), Brendan Montague (2019), and Justin Knox (2017). Team Reynolds consists of Nate Schenkel (2021), John DelCampo (2018), Merrick Maris (2022), Josh Schornak (2021), Dorian Lewis (2023), Dylan Ledford (2023), Geary Priehs (1996), Dave Reynolds (1997), Noah Slagle (2023), and Sam Peyerk (2018).
Last year, Team Reynolds won 69-64. “Everyone played hard. I knew it was going to be close and it was,” said Reynolds. “Those are the best games to watch and be a part of.”
“It will be totally different this year,” said Leija. “I really like the players I drafted.”
In addition to the games, there are contests throughout the evening with chances to win great prizes. The event has become more popular each year with former cheerleaders and other alumni attending. “More and more people are finding out about it. It’s like a reunion for not only basketball but for different graduating years,” said Julie Nash, Dryden cheerleader 1996.
To complete the evening, there will be a reception held at Pine House Kitchen and Bar in Dryden. “They have been very supportive of us. They are donating a portion of each tab to the basketball program,” said DelCampo.

What Seniors Wish Their Parents Knew
Editor's Note: Senior Seminar students concluded their semester course by listing what they wish parents knew about graduating seniors and their final year of high school. We'll feature their ideas here.
by Raeshell Richardson
Have you parents ever wondered what your students think when going through the process to go to college?
Students from all over the world are applying for colleges right now and getting answers. These students won’t come to parents when dealing with this process; they want to do it themselves. It is good to know where your student is during the process and how you can help them. Here are 10 things to do when your child is in the middle of the college process.
1. It’s scary
One thing your child won’t tell you is that they are scared because they may be shy and don’t like
to talk about how they are feeling. Despite this, every senior is worried about moving on and
taking a step into the world.
2. Don’t worry
Having faith in your seniors while they are taking care of their college process, because they
know what they are doing. When you are worried about what they are doing, you could end up
worrying your senior without even realizing it.
3. It will be okay
Graduating is a stressful time for seniors, but no matter what happens everything will be okay and work out.
4. Meet with us
One thing that will help your seniors through this year is to talk to them so if they are having problems, you can help. Don’t bug them about it every day, but sit down with them for 10 to 20 minutes and talk about what they are doing.
5. Guide us
When your seniors are asking for advice, don’t tell them what to do. Show your seniors multiple options to solve a problem and let them figure it out.
6. Help seniors understand finances
Some seniors go to college without knowing how their finances work because they were never shown. Finances are something that your seniors will need to know at some point in life and it's better to learn it from their parents than by themselves.
7. Spend time with us
Find fun things to do with your seniors, because soon they will be leaving for college and won’t have much time to go out and do things. Even if the only thing you do with your seniors is college visits, then do that with them.
8. Be patient
Just like any other person, seniors will change their minds multiple times before they make any decision. Don’t rush their decisions on picking things because then they could pick a college and not have any fun.
9. Tell us your concerns
Some parents like to hide their concerns from their seniors, but they can tell that you are worried. This could lead to them trying to get stressed because they don’t want to make a choice that will leave you worried, so open up to them.
10. Let us find a school that works for us
Seniors want to go to schools where they fit in and feel comfortable. Parents want students to go to smaller or larger schools then what their seniors are comfortable with and they will choose a school because they want to please their parents. Let your seniors find a place they want to spend the next 4 years of their life.

Random Student of the Week
Levi Fitchett
by Claire Wright
Levi Fitchett is an 8th grader who has been a Dryden student since halfway through his first-grade year. He is in Cross Country, Track, Link Crew, Band, and NJHS. Levi’s favorite thing about Dryden is “the fact that you’re able to take advanced classes and get your associate's degree before you graduate”, and Levi’s dream career is to become a Biomedical Engineer. Fun things Levi would like all of us to know is that “I’m pretty tall. Also, if you’re ever flying the desert and your tire gets a flat, you should have the color blue in your back pocket because ice cream doesn’t have bones.”
