CCE Jog A Thon
Message from Mr. VanIwarden
Hey CCE Community,
I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the start of the new school year. It's been awesome to see the kids so excited about learning and diving into our new literacy materials, "Into Reading." It was great having some many students and families join us in the Louisville Labor Day Parade. Thank you to our PTA for organizing this incredible opportunity for our kids.
I just wanted to remind you all to take a few minutes to read through our September Newsletter. There's some important information in there, especially about our HUG N GO procedures. Remember, for the safety of our students, no U-turns are allowed on campus, so please use the designated crosswalks and refrain from using the driveways of our neighbors to make a 3-point turn.
I wanted to celebrate what an incredible job our students did on CMAS last year. We continue to show increases in student achievement and increased growth on the English Language Arts assessments. Please take a moment to read this Boulder Daily Camera Article.
We are incredibly excited for our CCE Jog-A-Thon which is our biggest fundraiser of the school year. We have some exciting new pieces this year and our PTA will be sharing details in the near future. Our Jog-A-Thon will be on Friday, October 4th (details coming soon!) We are asking families to make a donation of $1 per school day per student, which is $172 per student. We also want everyone to know that no donation is too small, we hope that each and every one of our families will be able to make a donation. Your donations help us pay for our Academic Tutors, Reading Support, buses for field trips and other instructional supports requested by our amazing teachers!
As always, thank you for your partnership and for supporting our students' learning and helping us keep our campus safe for everyone.
Let's make this school year the best one yet!

Oct 1-4: Spirit Week and Jog-A-Thon 2024
We are incredibly excited for our annual jog-a-thon which is our biggest fundraiser of the school year. The PTA has added some exciting new elements which will be revealed in the coming weeks and it is sure to be a fun-filled week capped off by a morning of excitement and celebration of our wonderful school community.
As the only major fundraiser of the year, the donations raised help us pay for our academic tutors, reading support, buses for field trips and other instructional supports. That's why this year's goal is $1 per school day per student which works out to be $172 per student. We also want everyone to know that no donation is too small and we appreciate all you can do and give to make this event a success.

FAQ
- Who's invited?
Everyone! Parents, guardians, siblings, relatives, friends are all invited to cheer and run with your student(s)! Furry friends sadly must stay home. No pets at school! - How does it work?
Students will run in groups of two grades at a time. During their scheduled block, each grade runs alone for 15 minutes while the other cheers and, at the end, they can take one optional buddy lap together. - What will the course look like?
It's approximately 1/8 mile oval around the soccer field. This year will feature two options, a true running course for those who want to achieve a certain distance or number of laps and an obstacle course to spice up the run for those seeking more variety. - What should students wear?
Comfortable running clothes and shoes. Show your spirit if you like in Coal Creek colors - blue, white, gray. Extra pieces of flair are always encouraged! - Can parents run?
Please do! Join your student for one, two or all laps around the course! - How do we make a donation?
Pledge forms will be coming home in Friday Folders next week (Sept. 13) with instructions on ways to donate. - Can you process employer matches?
Yes, we can! We are registered with Benevity. Please reach out to CoalCreekElementaryPTA@gmail.com for more info.
🏀 PE 🏀
Dear Families,
I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Bob Sackett and I am the new physical education teacher at Coal Creek Elementary. My background experience includes a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a master’s degree in Public Health. I’ve spent the last 28 years teaching K-8th grade physical education. My family includes my wife Val, our three adult children Gavin, Katherine and Gracie. I am thrilled to get to know each of your children and to bring tons of fun to their physical education experience!
Students will be participating in P.E. on green or red weeks. On their scheduled P.E.days, students need to wear clothes that allow for easy movement as well as proper sneakers and/or tennis shoes. Please do not allow your students to wear sandals or open toed shoes to school on PE days.
My goal is to inspire a love of fitness, movement, and healthy living to each child. I believe physical education is an important factor towards building self-esteem, social & emotional skills, as well as a foundation for health and wellness.
I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
Sincerely,
Bob Sackett

Health Room News
Medications at School:
Parents must submit a Medication Administration Authorization form for each medication to be administered and a new form must be completed each year for every medication, even other-the-counter medications. All medications, even non-prescription, must be turned in to the school's health office by a parent/guardian.
For more information on Medications in School visit the Health Services page or contact your school nurse.
Required and Recommended Immunizations for School:
Documentation Deadline - November 6th
In compliance with State law, students that do not have required immunizations, a plan to get the required immunizations or a current certificate of exemption are not permitted to attend school and will not be permitted to attend after November 3, 2023 until their requirement is met.
You can check the immunization status of your child in the IC Parent Portal under Health.
If you need to update immunization records or exemption certifications for your child, you can submit documentation directly to your school’s health team at any time.
IMPORTANT: Non-medical exemptions expire on June 30th of each year and must be re-submitted annually. See CDPHE Exemptions for more information on exemption certificates.

Attendance
We are asking that this school year families continue to work with us to minimize the number of
days your child misses or is late to school. Of course, if your child is sick we want them to stay home
and get better. However, families should avoid scheduling travel or appointments during school
Days.
Here are a few reasons why we discourage children missing all or part of a school day:
- Excessive absences negatively impact your child’s educational experience. Gaps in children’s learning can increase disengagement and anxiety.
- We are a community school. When children miss an excessive number of school days, it reduces the whole-class relationship-building between students and teachers. This negatively affects the classroom community.
- Children who miss too many days of school often fail to build the friendships and peer connections so essential for building community.
1. Partial absence means a secondary student entering class more than 5 minutes after the scheduled start time or departing class more than five minutes before the scheduled end time or an elementary student entering class more than 60 minutes after the scheduled start time or departing class more than 60 minutes before the scheduled end time.
2. Tardy means a secondary student entering or departing a class less than 5 minutes after the scheduled start or departing less than 5 minutes before the scheduled end time or an elementary student entering a class less than 60 minutes after the scheduled start time or departing a class less than 60 minutes before the scheduled end time.
Tardiness and Partial Absences
Because of the disruptive nature of tardiness and partial absences, appropriate consequences consistent with this Policy may be imposed by the School when a student accumulates multiple tardies or partial absences. Generally, three (3) unexcused partial absences or five (5) tardies will equal one unexcused absence.
A student detained by another teacher or administrator will not be considered tardy or partially absent.
Report an Absence/Tardy
Parents must log into the student’s Infinite Campus Portal to report an absence or if the student will be tardy. Please complete this reporting PRIOR to 7:50 AM on the day of absence/tardy. Even if you have notified the teacher, you MUST report the absence in Infinite Campus.
If you do not have access to IC, please call the Attendance Line at 720-561-4502.
To ensure student safety, if we have not heard from parents excusing an absence prior to 9AM, the police will be dispatched to complete a welfare check on the student.
Pupil Count
The Pupil Count window is September 24th – October 8th,
with October 1st being the actual Pupil Count Day.
Please try to schedule all appointments or vacations outside of this time period. This is how our school receives funding for our students so it is VERY important that your student is in attendance during this time.
Late Start Wednesday Supervision and Breakfast
You do not need to sign up for the supervision provided from 7:40AM-8:50AM on late start Wednesdays.
Students must enter through the back cafeteria doors by the garden.
Inclement Weather Arrival at School
If we are experiencing inclement weather, we will allow the students into the building starting at 7:40AM. We will fly a YELLOW flag on the flag pole as the indicator when students are allowed into the building early. Supervision will begin at 7:40AM so please do not arrive prior to that time.
Volunteers / Background Checks
- Volunteers and field trip chaperones who volunteer once and are under line-of-sight supervision by BVSD staff at all times only need to go through the front office free Raptor check-in process.
- Individuals interested in volunteering and interacting with students on an ongoing basis under the line-of-sight supervision of BVSD staff should complete the appropriate yearly application in English or Spanish. Please note that a $32.00 background fee is due at the time of submission.
- For volunteers, partners, or field trip chaperones who will not be under the line-of-sight supervision of BVSD staff at all times, a CBI fingerprint check is required through a third-party vendor (these background checks are now valid for 5 years), paid by the volunteer or partner. The volunteer must also sign a BVSD volunteer agreement (Spanish) each year.
See the Volunteers/Visitors Flowchart and the Volunteer/Visitor FAQ for additional details.
School Messenger Notifications
You can choose how you would like to receive messages: phone calls, text messages and/or emails. Set up your preferences so you never miss out on important District communications (this includes weather related notifications).
If you have not been receiving emergency texts from the school (ie. severe weather hold) please go into School Messenger and make sure that you are set up correctly and do not have the school blocked.

The Jog-A-Thon is back in a whole new way...and putting the "fun" in fundraiser!
Coal Creek's single biggest event and fundraiser of the year is coming next month with a new look and feel. Featuring a running course and an all new obstacle course, it's going to be a fun filled morning of celebration and tradition at Coal Creek Elementary for students and families alike.
Did you know that Colorado ranks 40th in the country for per pupil funding?! The funds raised through this event are a vital part of supporting the student learning experience at Coal Creek and provide access to academic tutors, reading support, field trip transportation and other instructional support. The goal this year is to raise $1 per school day per student which works out to $172 per student and our ultimate goal of $48,000.
If potential donors ask you what the money goes to, you can give them the following examples!
$25 = all the funds needed to show a teacher we appreciate them for an entire year
$75 = one day of academic tutoring services during school
$250 = a school year's worth of classroom materials and supplies for one class
$500 = bus transportation for two field trips
$1,000 = a year's worth of funding for the library and music programs
And because the kids want to know what they're working hard for, we have put some awesome fundraising goals in place!
50% of goal = extra recesses for all!
75% of goal = pizza and popsicle party for the whole school
100% of goal = Tape the Principal to the Wall Day! Every student gets to help tape Mr. VanI to a wall in the school
Pledge forms and all event details will be coming home in Friday Folders next week.

Little kiddos (and future Pumas) are welcome to attend with parents!
Bittersweet Cafe & Confections
A Family-Owned Cafe & Event Venue in the Heart of Louisville, Colorado. For more than 13 years, the cafe has existed as a community gathering space, welcoming Louisville locals and out-of-town visitors for a cup of house-roasted coffee, a freshly made pastry, and a friendly hello.
After School Field and Playground Use
At the end of each school day, BVSD School Age Care (SAC) uses our fields and playgrounds from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Parents/guardians of non-SAC students are welcome to stay with their children and use the playground, as long as they maintain direct supervision. This will help the SAC staff better care for their enrolled students and maintain compliance with child care laws and regulations.
Preschool
Same programming, new schedule!
In the 2024-2025 school year, we will continue to offer preschool Learning and Enrichment. Learning classrooms offer high-quality, play-based instruction. Enrichment classrooms offer an optional extended day that expands on the lessons of the Learning classroom. Both Learning and Enrichment classrooms are capped at 18 students. Students must be enrolled in Learning first and can choose to enroll in Enrichment if offered at that location.
We will be adjusting our schedule to offer half-day preschool sessions five days a week, morning and afternoon, at all of our sites. The majority of our sites will also offer Enrichment on the opposite schedule; i.e., students will be able to attend Learning in the morning and then Enrichment in the afternoon, or alternately, start the day in Enrichment and then go to the Learning classroom in the afternoon. The preschool at Alicia Sanchez Elementary will offer 30 hours of Learning per week; a half-day schedule will not be available.
AM Session: 7:50am-10:50am, M-F
PM Session: 11:50am-2:50pm, M-F
Coal Creek offers Enrichment! If you participate in Enrichment, you also get lunch!
If you are a returning preschooler, we have already worked on pre-registration.
If you are a new 4 year old, you get 15 hours of free preschool through the State of Colorado. Please apply through Bridgecare and select Coal Creek as one of your preferred matches:

If you are a new 3 year old, the only option is tuition-based preschool. It's $620/month for Learning and an additional $620/month for Enrichment. Currently, we are full but things shift and change over the summer so please apply to get on the waitlist:
