Please Pull Your Vehicle Forward at Drop Off & Pick Up
To keep the cars moving and to prevent a backup onto Route 28, please pull your vehicle all the way forward at drop off and pick up. Please keep pulling forward as cars in front of you exit after picking up their child. This will facilitate the process. Thank you.

Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
We have had an outstanding start to the 2024-2025 school year. Nauset students and teachers are the best! We spent the week getting to know our new students and the new schedule. We established routines, distributed Chromebooks, assigned lockers and distributed locks. Students met their teachers and classmates, participated in team building activities, and learned how to use their combination locks, which somehow proves challenging every year. The locks are important, as students must keep their cell phones off and away in their lockers while at school.
We ended the week with a "duck drop" and assembly in the gymnasium. Every student was assigned a rubber duck with a number on it. When we dropped the ducks from the gym ceiling, if your duck landed in the target area, you won a prize. This was our fun way of saying goodbye to the ducks that we used in the past and hello to the new school year. We will continue with our ticket system to reinforce positive behaviors in school, but we have sunset the practice of handing out the ducks. Throughout the year students will earn rewards for earning tickets and the school store will still have items available where students can exchange tickets for these items at the store.
Next week, students will take the iReady Reading diagnostic assessment on Tuesday, September 10. This assessment helps us identify where students are at as we start the year. It also helps us track student growth during the year so that we can quickly identify students that would benefit from extra support and/or possibly being assigned to one of our boost courses. The math assessment will take place in a couple of weeks.
Also next week, we will hold a brief ceremony at the front of the school with first responders on the 23rd anniversary of September 11.
On Wednesday afternoon of this past week, one of our school buses grazed a stop sign in a way that broke a window on the bus. Thankfully, nobody was injured and there was not a student sitting in the seat near the broken window. While this accident was unfortunate, it did provide us an opportunity to practice protocols. The Orleans Fire and Rescue personnel along with the Orleans Police Department were on the scene within minutes, in communication with the school, and all students were safe throughout the event. When a school bus is involved in an accident, parents are contacted and asked to come to the scene to be reunited with their child. This all happened efficiently. Thanks to all who were impacted for your understanding and cooperation and to the first responders for keeping everyone safe.
We are off and running with this new school year. After school sports and clubs will soon start meeting. Our music programs are up and running. We encourage students to join the chorus, the band, the orchestra, the jazz band, a sports team, and/or other clubs to get involved with peers and to pursue their interests. Participation in these kinds of activities leads to increased connection to the school, to classmates, to the community and research shows a direct correlation to academic achievement and connection to the school through participation in extracurriculars.
We invite you to attend our NRMS Open House on Thursday evening, September 19 at 5pm-7pm. Please mark your calendars and save the date. Next week we will share the schedule for this event.
Have a great weekend.
