BOYNTON ELEMENTARY
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Happy Fall! It’s hard to believe that we are already into the month of October. This year is moving quickly. October 11th will mark the end of the first nine week grading period. Report cards will go home on Monday, October 28th. If your child’s report card does not reflect the grades that are expected, please contact your child’s teacher to request a phone conference, Google Meet, or in person meeting to discuss ways to assist your child in being successful at school. We are here to support our students and parents and want to answer any questions you may have about your child’s academics, growth, and well-being.
Reading Curriculum: I am very proud of our teachers for all of their hard work that they have put in since our in-service days in August. The county adopted a new reading curriculum, Benchmark Advance. The framework of Benchmark Advance reflects a comprehensive view of current and confirmed research into how children learn to read: the Science of Reading 360°. The texts are of high quality and include rigorous reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language practice. Benchmark Advance provides a cohesive framework for the sustained development of literacy skills and content knowledge. Students will develop strong foundational skills, build knowledge and vocabulary, and engage in diverse texts. We are excited about using this new reading curriculum and all of the positive outcomes that will be seen in May in our students' growth and achievement.
Charter Budget News: At the end of last year, our Local School Governance Team (LSGT) approved using our FY25 Charter Funds to keep our STEM teacher, Mr. Shoelen. The STEM teacher supports our students and their learning through integrating and applying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical concepts (STEM) within the K-5 grade level curriculum. Mr. Shoelen is doing an incredible job connecting with our students and providing them with hands-on learning experiences. The goal of the STEM lab is to promote student collaboration and exploratory learning which will build our students’ ability to develop thinking, reasoning, investigative, and creative skills so they can function and thrive in our highly technological world. Please read the STEM NEWS section at the end of our newsletter to see what has been happening in the lab since school started, how you can help, or volunteer. I am looking forward to all of the awesome learning experiences our students will receive this school year.
Moonpie Fundraiser: Congratulations to Ms. Tiffin's Kindergarten Class! They were the top sellers and won VIP seating to our Dunk Show coming in November. Students will also get to meet the dunk team and receive a signed basket ball. Ms. Cathey, Ms. Pattison, Ms. L. White, and Ms. Goldsmith will also get VIP seating for being within the top 5 classes. Congratulations to Sullivan Foster – 1st Place $100 Winner, Olivia Thompson 2nd Place $75 Winner, and Paisley McCamish 3rd Place $50 Winner. SCHOOL SAFETY
As we all know, we live in a digital age. Our kids are exposed to so much at an early age that we never had to worry about as kids. If your kids are exposed to social media, the internet, or have phones (like most children these days) be vigilant and active when supervising their activities. There are so many social media apps that our children use to communicate with other people online and sometimes that can be very dangerous. Unfortunately, there are bad people that wish to prey on our children, and we as parents and trusted adults are the first line of defense. Monitor everything our kids are doing online, who they are talking to and what is being communicated.
Thank you and let's keep nurturing our kids and keeping them safe!

Coping Skills
Coping skills are strategies we can use to manage feelings and handle stress. Teaching your child healthy coping skills will help them to become more resilient and better able to handle life’s ups and downs. Coping strategies can be used at any time, and using them regularly can help prevent some stress or anxiety from happening in the first place. There are many different coping strategies that you can practice with your child so that they can build their resilience which will set them up for success in the future.

PBIS DATA FOR AUGUST & SEPTEMBER
Each month our PBIS team meets to discuss ways that we can better support our students and provide positive interventions to assist students with being their best selves. During our meetings we also discuss behavior data for our school for that month. During the months of August and September, we had a total of 24 behaviors that were reported. The top 3 behaviors were not following directions, being off-task, and disrupting the class/classmates. Our team is working diligently alongside our teachers to support our students and promote positive school appropriate behaviors. Boynton wants to thank you in advance for encouraging your child to strive for positive and responsible behavior during their day at school.
BOYNTON BEYOND

October 11, November 22, December 20, March 12, March 28, May 22 and May 23.
Please remember Boynton Beyond ends promptly at 6:00 PM. Any student not received by 6:00 PM will be charged the late rate fee of $2.00 per minute in addition to the regular hourly rate.
We are entering a season of sickness. We have taken precautions in our classrooms to control the germs. If we call to let you know your student is ill and has a temp, we follow the same policy as during the school hours. Someone will have to come get the student, and they can't return to school until they are fever free, vomit free, diarrhea free for 24 hours. Thank you for your help!
MEDIA NEWS
Our Book Fair was amazing! I think this is everyone's favorite time of year. We sold almost $14,000, way to go, Boynton! A heartfelt thank you goes to the parents, kids, teachers, and especially the volunteers who made this week a super success.
In addition to checking in and out books and reading, I have some exciting activities lined up for the students. Kindergarten is exploring the concepts of past, present, and future in an interactive Social Studies unit. First and second graders are enjoying hands-on math number sorting activities. Third graders are honing their typing and cursive writing skills. Fourth graders will be focusing on summarizing texts. Lastly, fifth graders are starting a heredity and genetics activity to draw a dog using random strands of DNA.

After taking a couple weeks off after the birth of my daughter, I am so glad to be back! I enjoyed sharing photos of the new baby with students. I am excited for what we have planned in STEM for the upcoming month. We will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by creating fun art projects. Students are also enjoying the engineering design challenges that allow them to compete against each other. We are always working on improving our collaborative abilities and learning how teamwork can lead to greater outcomes. As the weather changes, we will explore some of the phenomena associated with this beautiful time of the year.
