BEH Weekly Family Message

Last week we saw a continued spike in illnesses across BEH and as a result saw many student and staff absences. I am hopeful that people were able to get well over the weekend and that we see all of our amazing students and staff back at BEH this week.

Our food drive continued through last week and into this week and the support has been amazing!! It sounds like we already met the PTA goal for items donated and our students earned their week of free dress. We will have that week after we return from the break. Please continue to bring in any food donations through this week, as our PTA will be using all the food that we have to ensure that all BEH families in need are set-up for the Holiday break.

Teachers continued meeting with families that missed conferences last week and we handed out our BEH sweatsuits to students who had their completed conference forms. This week will be our last week to wrap up conferences and then we will be passing the remaining sweat suits over to the PTA and families that would be interested in purchasing additional suits for their students can do so at future BEH events through the PTA. Most of the sizes left are youth sizes, but there may be a few adult sizes left as well.

This week we are happily wrapping up the food drive by surpassing our goal of 350!! Congrats for earning the school a free dress week in January! We are still accepting donations in the office through Thursday morning.

Volunteers needed for organizing and packing food drive items. Join us Thursday, 12/19 2:45-5:30 in the gym. All are welcome--kids too. Text 503-281-8629 to RSVP so we can provide enough pizza for volunteers!!

SUN School is done for this term. That means all students need to be picked up at 2:30 again this week. SUN will start again after we get back from Winter break in January. Here is the link for registering for Winter SUN School. The term will run from January 6th - March 6th, 2025.

Thank you to the 27 families that already completed the survey. If you haven't yet, today is the last day to fill out the survey to give us your feedback. The survey is anonymous and it takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. We truly appreciate you taking the time to help guide our planning and work for the rest of this school year. Don't forget, we have an early release again this Wednesday, December 18th. This means that students need to be picked up at 11:50AM on that day. Please make sure that your students' teachers know what the plan is for pick-up on that day.

This Friday we will be having a whole school pizza party to kick us off for winter break. Our community partner, Harbor of Hope, has arranged to have Portland firefighters and police officers bring and serve pizza to our students and join them for games on the playground. We will have two rotations for the 3-5 and the PK-2 starting at 1:30 that afternoon.

Last week we had our virtual Site Council Meeting with families and staff and reviewed our school data, discussed some of our plans moving forward, and looked for feedback around next steps. Here is the recording of this meeting in case anyone would like to review what we covered. Feel free to message me if you review it and come away with any thoughts around how we could improve our practice or look at our plans differently moving forward.

Our new Student Council would like to work on adding weekly clubs to BEH after winter break and are interested in learning skills such as a second language, sports, photography, yearbook, etc. If you or a family member have a specific skill and some consistent weekly time that you could help teach/run a club, please let me know what club you would be interested in facilitating and if there is a regular day that could work right after school. If you have ideas or other thoughts around this, please share it with us. We would love to support our students' interests and provide some additional enrichment for them to learn some new skills after school moving forward.
