LIDO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S NEWSLETTER FOR PARENTS
Message from Principal Hernandez
September 2024
Dear Lido Family,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!
As we begin the new school year, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you and your children. I hope this letter finds you and your family well and that you have had a restful summer. We are excited to welcome back returning students and meet our new students joining us this year.
Our staff has been working hard to prepare for the new school year, and we are ready to provide your child with the best possible learning experience. We have planned a curriculum that is engaging, challenging, and tailored to meet the needs of each student. Every child has the potential to excel, and we are committed to creating an environment that fosters academic and personal growth.
Our mission at Lido is we are not just a wave. We are a part of the ocean! We empower our students to ride the wave as lifelong learners and be positive leaders of the 21st Century Global Community!
Our Lido family is committed to providing our students with a joyous, caring, and safe environment. This year we welcome the following new staff members to Lido: our new Special Education WINGS teacher: Ms. Jamison, our Art and Music teachers: Ms. Rollis, Ms. Notar-Francesco, our librarian: Ms Ramsey, our PE teacher: Mr. Zizza. In addition, we also welcome several new Teaching Assistants and Aides who will support classroom instruction and student safety.
At Lido Elementary School, we know that a strong partnership will make a difference in a child’s education in and out of school. I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher, Mr. Webel, or me if you have any questions and/or concerns. Your feedback supports us in providing a collaborative environment for our students.

Birthday Celebrations at School
Dear Lido Families:
We are excited to celebrate your child’s birthday at school. We invite you to a virtual or in person birthday celebration. We have a few ways to host a birthday celebration.
- Parents may do a read aloud of their child’s favorite book
- Parents may do a craft project with students
- Student may bring in a special craft to do with his/her peers
- Parents and student may play a game with classmates
Please do not send in snacks/goodie bags as this is not allowed at this time.
Additionally, siblings will not be permitted to join birthday celebrations during school hours, as it is important to avoid disrupting their instructional time.
To ensure proper planning and coordination, we kindly request that you contact your child’s teacher at least two weeks in advance if you wish to celebrate your child’s birthday at school.
If you have any questions and/or concerns, please feel free to let us know.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding.
Photography & Video Consent
During the school year we look forward to celebrating your child and his/her hard work. Our students participate in class and schoolwide celebrations and/or events. We might share your child’s picture and/or video via our school newsletter, school website, school Instagram/x (formally twitter) page, class dojo, and/or other social media outlets via the district. Some school events such as the concert may be videotaped for our families.
If you do not want your child’s picture and/or video to be shared, please provide your child’s teacher with a written letter of request. We will keep a list of any student who should not be photographed or videotaped. We will make sure their picture and/or video are not shared on any media outlets.
Thank you for your continued support
Lido Safe Zone
In order to ensure the safety of all students and maintain a smooth flow of traffic, please review the following procedures:
Bus & Fire Lanes (areas with cones):
Do not park in the fire or bus lane areas.
Do not remove cones to park in the fire lane areas.
Handicap Spots:
Handicapped parking is only for vehicles with proper stickers.
Do not park in the handicap parking area without a proper sticker.
Crosswalk:
Use the crosswalks for the safety of all pedestrians.
Walk with the crossing guard when using Lido Blvd.
Walker Zone:
All parents of walkers must meet their child(ren) at the “Walker Zone”. Parents are asked to park their cars in the parking lot when dropping off or picking up their walkers/car riders.
Children will NOT be dismissed from the walker zone to the parking lot by ANY Lido staff member. This is for the safety of all students, staff and parents.
If you have a child(ren) in multiple grades please pick up your youngest child first.
Bike Riders:
Use the designated bike racks to park bikes.
Walk your bike during arrival and dismissal times for safety.
Remember to wear a helmet and follow all bike safety rules.
Drop Off Lane:
When you come to the drop off lane, be sure to let your child/children exit your car on the curb side (right side). You cannot park and leave your car in the drop off lane. Please do not double park or create two drop lanes, near the drop off lane for the safety of students and staff. If you would like to walk your child/children to school please park your car in the parking lot.
Dismissal:
As a friendly reminder, please be sure to stand in the walker zone during dismissal. Students will not be allowed to walk to the parking lot area without an adult. We also ask that students are not taken off their line without notifying their teacher first for the safety of all students.
Visiting Lido:
Whether you are visiting our school, heading to the nurses office, or need to do an early pick-up, please be sure to go to our security in our main entrances and bring photo ID.
With the safety and well-being of our school community as our top priority, we have security guards onsite to ensure that all members of our community are kept safe. It is crucial that we all follow their directions and guidance in a respectful manner. Your support and cooperation in following these procedures are greatly appreciated. Together, we can create a safe and secure environment for our students, staff, and families.
Thank you for your dedication to the safety of our school community.

Dr. Hernandez Favorite Books
One of my favorite things to do during the summer months is read. Here are a few of my new favorite read aloud books. Enjoy!
Islandborn by Junot Diaz - Read by Dr. Hernandez
Hers was a school of faraway places.
So when Lola's teacher asks the students to draw a picture of where their families immigrated from, all the kids are excited. Except Lola. She can't remember The Island—she left when she was just a baby. But with the help of her family and friends, and their memories—joyous, fantastical, heartbreaking, and frightening—Lola's imagination takes her on an extraordinary journey back to The Island. As she draws closer to the heart of her family's story, Lola comes to understand the truth of her abuela's words: “Just because you don't remember a place doesn't mean it's not in you.”
Gloriously illustrated and lyrically written, Islandborn is a celebration of creativity, diversity, and our imagination's boundless ability to connect us—to our families, to our past and to ourselves.

Meesha Makes Friends by Tom Percival
A warm and affectionate story about the joys and difficulties of building and maintaining friendships and relating to others, Meesha Makes Friends helps young readers find their place in the world.
The Big Bright Feelings picture book series provides kid-friendly entry points into emotional intelligence topics -- from being true to yourself to dealing with worries, managing anger, and making friends. These topics can be difficult to talk about. But these books act as sensitive and reassuring springboards for conversations about mental and emotional health, positive self-image, building self-confidence, and managing feelings.

Gratitude is My Superpower
Little Betsy will learn that happiness is made up of simple things in life, both small and big. With the help of the magic stone, she will begin to feel gratitude for her parents, friends, and toys. But what happens when little Betsy forgets to use the magic of her stone? She will realize that the power of gratitude is hidden in her heart.
"Gratitude is my superpower" will teach your little ones to appreciate the warmth of home, time spent playing with friends, and family relationships.

Class Parents
Dear Lido Families:
We hope you have enjoyed the start of the school year. As we embark on a new school year, we would like to extend a warm invitation to all our families to become class parents and actively participate in the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
At Lido School, we strongly believe that a thriving school community is built upon the collaborative efforts of parents, educators, and students. To become a class parent, we kindly request that you join the PTA as a member. The PTA serves as a vital link between parents, teachers, and administrators, working together to enhance the educational experience of our children. Your membership in the PTA provides you with a platform to voice your opinions, contribute your ideas, and actively engage in decision-making processes that impact our school community.
We also ask that all class parents volunteer their time and energy to organize and support two major events during the school year: one in the fall and one in the spring. These events are crucial in fostering a sense of belonging, promoting school spirit, and raising funds for various educational programs and initiatives. Your involvement in these events will not only make a significant difference in your child’s educational journey but help create lasting memories for our students.
Please note that the role of a class parent requires a commitment of time and energy. However, the rewards and satisfaction of actively participating in your child’s education are immeasurable. As a class parent you will have the opportunity to share a storybook or craft for approximately 15 - 20 minutes and create a class contact list to communicate with families about upcoming events and school emergencies. Depending on the number of parents that volunteer to be a class parent we may need to rotate the class parents throughout the school year: class parents for the fall, winter, and/or spring.
If you are interested in becoming a class parent please join the PTA, see the attached document for instructions on how to join or contact our PTA: pta.lido@gmail.com. Each class will have a sign up sheet at “Meet the Teacher'' Night on Thursday, September 26th at 6pm. The PTA will also have a table in the Lido main lobby to join the PTA and sign up to volunteer for an upcoming event.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to working together for the success of our school and the well-being of our children.
