We had our second All-Pro Dad on February 10th and it was wonderful to be able to spend time with De Zavala dads and their students. The class was on encouraging kindness and we have great examples of kindness in our amazing dads.

All-Pro Dad is a very successful program that encourages fathers and their students to have conversations that are meaningful and inspiring. Classes are held in the De Zavala Auditorium and our 3rd All-Pro Dad will be on Friday, March 3rd at 7:00 am and they will be going over perserverance. We encourage our fathers and father figures to come and have breakfast with your students!

Arrival: Cafeteria doors open at 7:20 am and school doors open at 7:40 am.

Classes start promptly at 7:50 am, students are tardy after 8:00 am.

Dismissal: School ends at 2:30 p.m. for Pre-K and 3:20 p.m. for Kinder-5th grade.

Hello De Zavala Families,

One of the most important factors of a student’s academic success is their daily on time attendance. It is critical students are in school on time daily when healthy. When students are absent from school, he/she misses instruction. It can be difficult for a child to make up the instruction lost due to an absence or late arrival. Simply put, it’s hard for a child to learn if he/she is not in school. Along with daily attendance, students need to be on time daily. When a child is late to class, it actually affects the child along with the rest of the class. Any disruption in the instruction will affect the class schedule and flow of instruction.

We are excited to begin an incentive program to encourage and reward students for continuous daily attendance and punctuality. The FWISD start of school time is 7:50 AM. This means students must be in their seat ready to go at 7:50 AM ready for the day’s instruction. On Tuesday, October 11, we will begin the “Attendance Adds Up” incentive program outlined below.

· Students can earn a personal prize every 20 days of attendance without a tardy.

· The class can earn a class party with 17 days of classroom perfect attendance. Each day the entire class is present, they will color in the letter with the goal of coloring in the phrase

“P E R F E C T A T T E N D A N C E.” Once the phrase is complete, the class will earn a class party or incentive.

· Every six weeks, the class with the greatest number of perfect attendance days as a class will earn a free dress day.

· At the end of the year, all students with perfect attendance for the year will receive a medal at their awards ceremony.

· At the end of the year, the class with highest attendance percentage for the entire school will earn a class field trip. More details will be provided as we get closer to this date.

We want students eager and excited about attending school. Of course, we need your support and help in order for this program to be successful. The Attendance Adds Up will help students academically and really take ownership of their responsibility of attending school. As you know we take our students' attendance very seriously and we've implemented our incentive program to improve our attendance. As a result our campus proposal for the Attendance Matters Campaign 2022-2023 was approved and selected as one of this year's winners! We were presented with an award and most importantly funds were granted to our campus to continue our work on our "Attendance Matters".

We love taking every opportunity to celebrate our students! On February 10th, 84 students were able to celebrate the end of the 4th 6 weeks with a Taki's Party. They had so much fun and so did we!

Our 5th 6 weeks Perfect Attendance students will celebrate with ice cream! We scream, you scream, we all scream for perfect attendance!

We also celebrate classes who have 17 days of Perfect Attendance. Each day the entire class is present, they color a letter in the phrase Perfect Attendance, and once the phrase is complete they earn a snack party or an additional 15 minutes of recess with their teacher! They love it! So far we've had Ms. Sandoval's 5th grade, Ms. Cruz's 5th grade, Mr. Favela's 2nd grade and Mrs. Jorgensen's 1st grade.

Shout out to Mr. Favela's 2nd grade, this is their 2nd 17 days of Perfect Attendance!

Ms. Cruz's 5th grade classroom had the highest percentage of students here for the entire 4th 6 week with a total of 97%! That's outstanding! We challenge them to try and get 100% for this 6 weeks.

They got a pizza party and we are so proud of their hard work.

Congratulations to our February Eagles of the Week! The character trait for February is an eagerness to learn. These scholars come to school eager to learn, they listen to their teachers, they stay focused and are smart with their actions. Great job, Eagles!

Congratulations to 2nd & 3rd grade teachers for having 100% student usage on Lexia the week of the 13th. They were treated to a Sonic drink of their choice. Keep up the fabulous work teachers!

We celebrated 100 Days of School on February 8th! Some of our students dressed up as 100 year olds and were so cute!

Javon Francois is the Fort Worth ISD myON Winter Challenge winner for 4th grade! Congratulations and awesome work Javon! We are so proud of you!

Valentine's Day was a really big deal for us! We had a big Valentine's Day Dance and we had lots of parties here at school too. The Junior Mints and our own PTA worked on the Valentine's Day Dance and they did an amazing job!

Our 2nd grade and 1st grade students took field trips to Bass Performance Hall in February. They enjoyed it so much. Bass Performance Hall is always a special place to visit.

We want to say great job to our Cowtown Kids racers! They represented De Zavala and showed up ready to win! Shout out to Coach Dotson for making this all possible.

We had an amazing turnout for our first A&M Barber Academy visit! We want to say thank you so much to our families who came out and an especially big thank you to the students at A&M Barber Academy, we appreciate you! They did a great job with our students haircuts and several of them were talking about how happy they were to get those haircuts. They looked great!

Our next visit from A&M Barber Academy will be on Thursday, March 28th, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.

Congratulations to Ms. D. Jorgensen and Ms. Chen, they are our Golden Eagles of the Month! Their colleagues said that Ms. Jorgensen keeps her communication very professional, her demeanor is pleasant and is always prepared and ready to start her day with a positve attitude! She works hard to make her lessons engaging for her students is also rocking her first year of teaching!!

Ms. Chen is very kind, reliable and efficient, she also does an amazing job with communication. She is the queen of communication and makes sure staff and families know what is going on in a clear way!

We are so proud to have these two on our "A" team!

We are still in the Readers Become Leaders Challenge, and it would be super helpful for our families to log their reading minutes, which is not only the minutes they spend reading but also the time you spend reading to them. We will also award the top class and the top 20 students a grand prize!

We will be needing volunteers for our Spring Festival, as well as for other events that we have coming up and a background check is required. Per the Fort Worth ISD Saturday Learning Quest website, students who attended Saturday Learning Quest acclerated their learning and those who attended at least 70 percent of the time saw a marked improvement in reading and math. We are so excited for this wonderful opportunity for our students.

Students who attend a Saturday Learning Quests will be putting a star next to their name on our Saturday Learning Quest bulletin board, they will be receiving a bag of chips and a free dress pass and will be eligible for our Saturday Learning Quest Bounce House in May!

This tool will transform the way you interact with your child’s campus by enhancing two-way communication and involvement. It works seamlessly with the District’s Student Information System (SIS) and allows you to monitor your child's progress in school by providing timely access to both assignments and grades that are entered by the teacher throughout the grading period.
