THE LION'S ROAR!
August 9th, 2024

FROM OUR PRIDE LEADER
Hello Norris Lions!
What a busy and fun short week that we had! Thank you to all of our families who came out for both the Norris Family Picnic Night, and the Donuts with Dads Watch DOG Kickoff! If you are interested in volunteering at Norris as a Watch DOG, sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0D4FAAAD2EA6F49-50569700-watch#/
This coming week we are hosting Qdoba night at the location near 124th & L. Be sure to mention Norris Elementary when you order, and a portion of the sale will be donated back to our school!
We were excited this week to honor our first winners of the Students of the Month! One student is chosen each month from every grade level to be honored with this award. All staff members can nominate students who demonstrate ROAR all day, every day! These students are sent home with a sign to display in their window for the month and a certificate for a free meal from a local restaraunt. We are always proud to honor our students who work hard in the classroom, show strong character, and help make Norris a great place to learn and grow!
All families should have received a text message from Deyo's Photography about their students' school pictures! You can also click here: https://my.photoday.com/gallery/norris-elementary-2-2. to access. If you need assistance with your child's online code, please call the office or email Mrs. Grothe.
Have a great weekend!

Students may purchase hot lunch for $3.15 and breakfast for $1.60 per day. Lunch prices are subject to change. Each student will have an account similar to a debit account. Deposits will be made to the account and meals subtracted. Parents may check balances and make deposits online at www.myschoolbucks.com. To register, the student’s birth date and ID number are needed. Students may bring a cold lunch and purchase milk for 50¢. Milk purchases will be deducted from the account.
Breakfast is available at 8:15. Students will be invited by staff to enter the breakfast line.
Parents with students qualifying for free or reduced meals will need to complete the appropriate forms and submit them to the office. Forms are located on the MPS website, under the Food Services Department. You may also contact the office for copies of the Free and Reduced Pricing Forms. See more information linked here: https://www.mpsomaha.org/departments/food-services
A copy of the lunch menu is sent home on a weekly basis in the Lion’s Roar.
Students who choose to eat hot lunch at school will not be permitted to bring outside food or drinks into the lunchroom. This includes drinks such as Gatorade, pop, chocolate milk, etc., as well as any chips, candy, or other snacks. If a student has an outside food or drink item with their school lunch, they will be asked to return the item to their backpack.
No nut items are permitted in the cafeteria at any time. Students with nut items in their lunchbox (peanut butter sandwich, trail mix, etc.) will be moved to the office to eat their lunch. A staff member will call parents to remind of our school policies.
Students are not permitted to bring outside breakfast items into the classroom or cafeteria. Please do not send your child into school with breakfast items to eat or drink. (Ex. Starbucks drinks, fast food breakfast, etc.) Students will be asked to dispose of these items.
Students are not permitted to have food items delivered to school via delivery services (DoorDash, etc.).
Parents and other relatives are welcome to join students for lunch throughout the school year. The cost of an adult lunch is $4.85 and will be deducted from your child’s account. You will need to contact the school office (402-715-8340) before 9:30 a.m. in order to reserve a hot lunch and/or to inform the school that a non-parental visitor will be seeing your child.

ROAR Skill of the Week- Having a Conversation
Each week, all students at Norris will have a lesson practicing a social skill. These weekly lessons are called our ROAR Skills of the Week! ROAR skills are practiced in the classroom during a Morning Meeting. All staff members are on the lookout through the week for students to be practicing the weekly skill. Students who demonstrate the skill of the week may earn a ROAR ticket and be entered into a weekly grade level drawing.
Please take some time each week to review the ROAR Skill of the Week with your child!

iPad Protection for your Student
Dear 3rd-5th Grade Norris Parent/Guardian,
During online registration, you indicated you were interested in participating in the Millard Public Schools iPad Damage/Loss Cooperative Program. You are receiving this reminder to pay the $15.00 fee in order to take full advantage of this program. This program is optional. However, we want to make sure our families are completely informed. If you have already sent in your payment or paid online, thank you!
If your child brings home his/her iPad and it is lost or damaged, you will be responsible for the full cost of the replacement or repair of the device if payment for the iPad Damage/Loss Cooperative Program has not been received prior to the loss/damage. In other words, payment into the program is not retroactive.
Students who are not enrolled in the program do not have the option to bring their iPads home overnight.
Nonpayment before the deadline of Friday, September 13th, will indicate your choice to opt-out of the program. If you choose to opt-out now, you can join at a later time with the understanding that $15.00 must be paid to the school before program benefits will begin.
To Pay Online:
Step 1: Log onto ParentVue: https://ne-mps-psv.edupoint.com/PXP2_Login.aspx (ParentVue can also be found on the Norris website and the MPS district website.)
Step 2: Select your student in the top left-hand corner
Step 3: Click on “fee” in the menu on the left side of your screen
Step 4: Click on the blue pay fees button
Step 5: Make your payment!
If you do not want to make a payment online, you may send a check or cash to school with your child.
Checks can only be accepted payable to Norris Elementary School for $15.00
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Harris, our Tech Initiator at jmharris@mpsomaha.org

There are several benefits to your child joining a before and after school program.
Studies have shown that students in before and after school programs are more

excited to learn and achieve.
Students participate in a variety of extended learning activities to help them discover their interests as well as hands on enrichment activities that encourages kids to explore, unstructured time, outside play, a homework hangout and more!
