December Monthly Activity Calendar
Click the link below to access and print the calendar for the month of DECEMBER. As a family try to do as many of the boxes as you can during the entire month of December! You will see that many of the activities focus on winter and holidays. A huge thank you to Second Grade Teacher, Mrs. Delli Paoli, for creating this month's activity calendar!
Sing-Alongs...You are Invited!
Please join us on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in the Jaguar Jungle for our annual TJS Sing-Alongs. If your child is in kindergarten, first, or second grade, the Sing-Along time will be from 9:15-9:45 AM. For anyone with a third, fourth, or fifth grader, the Sing-Along time will be from 10:00-10:30 AM. For anyone with children in both Sing-Alongs, please feel free to stay for both sessions. The Sing-Alongs are not performances. They are designed to be special times when we may all come together to sing holiday songs! We hope to see you there!
**Parents/guardians are encouraged to please check the LOST and FOUND items when you are in the building for the sing-alongs. The items often accumulate during the winter months.

Trimester 1 Report Cards
First trimester report cards will be available for viewing in Genesis beginning on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 3 PM. Please email or call the TJS main office if you have any problems viewing your child's report card.
Outdoor or Indoor Recess
Even during cold winter days, we will be going outside for recess throughout the school year. Indoor recess occurs only if the temperature (including the wind chill factor) and/or the playground area is unsafe because of the weather conditions. The wind forecast is also considered. Please make sure that your child is prepared to play in cold weather and remind them of the importance of knowing how to zip up their coats to stay warm. Labeling hats, gloves, scarves with your child's name is also helpful as our LOST and FOUND tends to grow during the winter months of school.
Library Media Classroom Update
In grades K, 1, 2 we have been enjoying holiday stories. The students in grades K-1 have been working on sharing the pen with the teacher to write about their reading through interactive writing. In grade 2, we have been working on comparing and contrasting stories written by the same author.
In grades 3, 4, and 5 we have also been having a great time reading holiday stories. Using these stories, we have been working hard to identify the theme and the lesson learned. We are starting to notice that many stories share common themes, such as compassion, perseverance, acceptance, and courage.
Upcoming Service Learning Experience
In January, we will engage in a schoolwide service learning project where students will build Hygiene kits to donate to BRIDGES, a non-profit organization in Summit, NJ. Thank you to all the families who have generously donated thus far. Please note that our collection of items continues until Friday, December 20, 2024. The items we are collecting for donations are below.

Nutrition Update from our Food Service Provider, Pomptonian
I am excited to share the latest edition of Nutrition News, which highlights Asian Pears: "They're Pearfect." While these pears are typically farmed in Asia, we are fortunate to have an Asian pear farm, Evergreen Farms, right here in the Garden State. These delicious pears will be featured on our menus in January, so keep an eye out for this special treat!
Looking ahead, after the New Year, we will be sharing details about Pomptonian’s Healthy School Lunch Challenge, an exciting promotion we offer in honor of National Nutrition Month in March. This challenge invites students to submit healthy recipes, with winners selected in three categories: Elementary, Middle, and High School. The top High School students will then compete in a culinary competition. We’ll provide more details in the new year, including submission deadlines, prizes, and more!
As always, we truly value the opportunity to be your food service provider. It is our privilege to provide nutrition education and serve meals to your students.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and happy New Year!
Healthy regards,
Toni Marie Bowman, MBA, RDN, SNS
